Guess what I found!

My parents were cleaning out their house to get ready for a neighborhood yard sale when they found a box of my stuff. They said it had trophies and models and stuff in it. Sure enough there were trophies and 4 models in it. Three of them were no big deal, just miscellaneous AFV’s I built 13 or 14 years ago, but I of them is a truly magnificent kit (the kit was magnificent, not what I did to it). It is a 1/35 early Tiger 1that I built in 1978, when I was 11 years old. I am nearly dead certain it’s a Tamiya. It has a detailed interior; driver’s and co-driver’s stations, engine compartment, turret basket, gun recoil system, etc. It also had very nice articulated tracks. Not indy link, but the track sections were linked by pins, as opposed to the normal rubber bands. There is also a moving suspension. It cost a fortune. The price, in 1978 canadian dollars was well into the thirties. After god knows how many years in a box, the kit is a mess. There are missing pieces, and it’s filthy. It has just become a major restoration project. It needs to be cleaned and fixed, then properly painted. If I can get my hands on a digital camera, I’ll take some pictures, and as I fix it, I’ll keep a record of the work I do. Should be fun/frustrating/infuriating in the typical armor modeling way.

have fun[:)]

please post us some pictures!

Go for it I remember that kit I had one in about 76-77 it met its death when it got knocked off the shelf by my ex wife, then finally its demise in a house move, try and post some pics when you can before and afters… it would be good to see it again, more power to your elbow!

I thought you were talking about the Habs.[;)]

great stuff. Make sure you post some pics. Don’t you always hope for a day like that? You just get informed of an extra little thing you get to have [:)]

Up until this year, they have mostly just been frustrating and infuriating.[:(!]

Way to go, buff. Looking forward to seeing it!

I wish some of my old models would should up in a box somewhere. I used to have almost all of the original Weird-Ohs from the 60’s.

Its the only one from that period that I still have. All of the others (there were a lot of them) got thrown out. Most of them were wingy thingies[:I], and even if I found them, I wouldn’t do anything other maybe clean up the odd one and give it to my son. Finding that Tiger has really made my week. I always thought that I wasted that kit. Now I can try to do it justice. At least now I know where to get help!

Good luck with it, Bill! I hope it really turns out well. I had never heard of that kit before. I can’t wait to see it.

Sounds like a very interesting project you have there

I hope so. I’ll have to do some research, which will be fun, and I think some scratchbuilding too. I haven’t really tried my hand at that yet, so I’m sure I will improve on and add to my modeling skills.
