Grumman OV-1A Mohawk (pics)

Hey all…this 1:48 Roden Mohawk was a great model that I finally finished after moving and getting back into the modeling zone. Everything was OOB except for a few things in the cockpit. If you do this one be sure to add lots of weight up front as it’s a big time tailsitter. Recommended for all fun seeking modelers. Well, are’nt we all. Now I’m ready for the JOV-1A. Standby Squadron…I’m commin at ya!

What a cool bird! Looks great- how was the build?

Looks good.

chukw…the building was fine with the exception of landing gears. That became a bit tricky but the final result was very nice. It would probably be the best thing to deal with those last.

Sweet Build

Nice build

Really nice build. I just started this bird myself. Haven’t even got passed the instrument panel yet. I’m adding the Eduard cockpit photoetch kit. It’s my first Roden model and I wasn’t sure how the build would go. It looked like it went really well for you. Great work.

Very nice work Tommy. Good looking Mohawk.

Regards, Rick

Great job! I’m going to have to pick up a couple of those. Saw one at a LHS but waited too long and someone else got it! I remember seeing a couple at Ft. Rucker in 1970 they used for ground run ups for training the mechanics. Also one at Ft. Reily a few years later they were rebuilding after a landing accident. One prop reversed and the other didn’t! Neat looking airplane.

Nice job on the Mohawk, Tommy! The cockpit and painting look great.

I always liked these ungainly looking birds. This one looks nice.

Tugcap, did you mean that we are all “fun seeking modelers” or we are “big time tail sitters”?
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the compliments from all. m60a3…(lol)actually I very seldom have fun unless I’m sitting on my tail…makes for the fine art of consentration.

I agree. Again, nice build.

NICE!!!

I’ve got this kit on my todo list. You did the kit proud

Tommy,

Saw your OV-1, and it impresses me to finish the one I’ve got- though its about 80%-90% built-minus painting and decaling. Hope mine looks as good as yours when its done!

Nice build. I just finished the JOV-1A and had alot of trouble with the decals breaking up. I couldn’t find any after market ones so I had to use the kits.
