Grumman F9F-5 Panther

What a nice kit. Monogram 1/48th More at: http://www.percongrp.com/pelikan/aircraft/f9f_ms.htm

Very sharp! All the way down to the red shirted Ordy - good job! Did you scratch build the weapons skid?

The tow tractor and the bomb sled are from the R-M ground equipment set that also has two Luftwaffe pieces and two RAF pieces.

that looks really good and thanks for the pics

Yet again, an intrepid modeler goes out an does a subject and scheme that I’ve only laid around and thought about doing, never getting around to it. And a deuced nice one at that. Good work.

Very Excellent Build [tup][tup]. The Monogram 1/48 Panther is a very nice kit, especially considering it’s age. Hobby Craft still shows new tools of a Panther & Cougar in their most recent catalog, but sadly they have been on indefinite hold for about 3 years. Thanks for sharing. Keep em coming.

Beautiful Panther scene…mstanley.

Well done!

Regards, Dan

mstanley,

Very nice Panther you have there![tup]
Makes me want to break out my Bridges at toko Ri dvd[:D] I intend to build my copy as the one flown by William Holden in the film…someday[:-^]

Good looking cat. I’ve often thought about doing a small dio like that but my skills are sadly lacking in that department.

Wow! Very nice! The Panther is my favorite airplane. I like the Monogram kit very much, and I even managed to get one of the new ones (with the book) for $10.00 at Hobby Lobby. Great work on that nose spiral. Is that the kit supplied one or Super Scale? I heard that those were hard to work with.

very nice build mstanley!![tup][tup][tup]

Nice job, I love the Panther and have built a few of them for my 1950’s Essex class carrier collections. The only issue I had with that kit was that it was hard to get the warp out of the vertical stab.

Very nice work. It is nicely finished, and you did a great job on the nose decal.

Excellent work! I have that kit with those decals too. Did you have any trouble with decals on the nose?

Regards,

The nose decals were a bit of a problem. The decals are from the Monogram “era” with the white milky residue. I soak them extra long and then wipe off as much of that milky stuff as possible with a brush before applying. The nose spiral does not lay down very well and it really doesn’t match photos of the real a/c. The one good thing about those type of decals is that they are rather thick and don’t break as easily as some others do. After they were dry I hit them with Aeromaster SOL and even Solvaset and they finally went down. There is also a top coat of Future. The final coat is Testors semi-gloss. Navy planes of that time were gloss sea blue, so I think semi-gloss is pretty accurate.

Looks great, thanks for sharing.

Excellent. I’m glad to read that the decals weren’t too bad.

Regards,

Very nice build, keep it up.

nicely done.

Just came across this post after wanting more information for the same model I’m about to start on. I was wondering if you used an after market cockpit because yours looks raised where as the one I have only uses decals? What did you use for the camers, or did you use the paper ones? Are your colors accurate and which model colors did you use? I know this post is old so hopefully I’ll get a reply. Thanks
