Are there any manufacturers of C-2 Greyhound COD aircraft kits out there? Preferably in 1/48? How about C-1 Traders? I would like to build one to remind me of the scariest landing I ever experienced in my life. Maybe I could detail the interior with some shifting cargo like the stuff on my flight.
Really, though, are there any styrene kits for these aircraft? Resin scares me.
Subfixer I don’t know of any of either. I know that there are no Injection molded models of the Hawkeye except in 1/72 scale. I had that kit and in my opinion it is junk. I have no knowledge of any Traders that dosen’t mean that there isn’t any either. I know that there is one company that has a resin model in 1/48 of the Hawkeye, but being resin it is pricey. However I do not know if they have the Greyhound. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.
And oh by the way. Welcome aboard this forum. It is great to have you here. I think you will find this forum to your liking. I have been on for just about a year and a quarter and this place has been very helpful for me. Great to have you in the family.
The Hawkeye kit is from Fujimi, also rereleased by Testors and Heller. Though not “state of the art” it’s the only game in town. Unfortunately, to convert it to a Greyhound you need to find the Falcon Vacs triple conversion set which includes the c-2. The Trader is also available thru Falcon but in another set, for use with the Hasegawa S2F. (I think I have an extra one of these conversions, if your interested). HTH

Thanks, guys. I guess they just aren’t all that popular of aircraft. But they are (were in the case of the C-1) the most popular aircraft to the crews of the ships that provide mail and other goodies while they are on deployment. And it’s not just the carrier’s crew that loves them, the rest of the task group gets their mail after it’s sorted by the carriers postal clerks and then sent out to them by helo.
I have very limited experience in resin other than aftermarket detailing and no experience at all in vacuum kits. I would like to be able to show the aircraft with the cargo ramp lowered but get the feeling that in these two forms that it probably wouldn’t be possible.
A Hawkeye would be nice though, but they don’t get as grungy as the CODs and don’t have as much character if you know what I mean. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a clean Greyhound.
Anyway, thanks again for your feedback and thank you for welcoming me to the forum.
In addition to the C-2A vacuform conversion from Falcon, there is a cruder vacuform conversion from ID Models in England and a better resin conversion, with decals, from RVHP. The latter might still be available from Hannants. I haven’t built them, but the vacuforms would be easier to do with an interior.
There is also a C-1 resin conversion from RVHP with decals. If memory serves, the belly isn’t quite deep enough on either the Falcon or the RVHP conversion.
