Grumman Albatross Info?

All,

Can anyone shed a little light on the interior colors for the Grumman Hu-16 Albatross? I just picked upt the Revell Germany 1:48 kit, and I can find no color pictures of the interior that I am (attempting to) scratch build. Does anyone know what color they were? I was guessing that possibly it would be the usual chromate primer (interior green) color, but I’m not sure.

I was hoping that some of the real experts here could she some light.

Thanks!

Here’s some cockpit pics for you. Looks to me like a gull grey. Maybe someone else can shed some light on the color.

Looks more like natural bare metal to me. Possibly with a protective coat of clear lacquer.

Gentlemen,

Thank you both very much for the info - I agree that it does appear to be grey with natural metal faceplates at each control station. At least that is waht mine is gonna be [:D]! Thanks for the link, that is one wild site! I can see I will be using it a lot from now on. That’s why I like this forum so much - eveyone is so willing to help out! Thnaks again, guys!

My Cub Scout pack got a tour of an HU-16 back in the mid-60"s (yes, I am older then dirt). I recall the interior being gray and consisting of the insulation blankets (silverish gray with a diamond pattern). I’ll ask my Dad (who flew them in Greenland) if he recalls the interior better.

The US Coast Guard HU16E Albatross’ (GOAT) I flew on had gray interior.
Some had the sound proofing blankets, some had them in spots, some had none. It made no difference the interior was as loud as the outside was. The blankets were a metallic gray with buttons, not diamond pattern.
The interior was fitted for passengers or patrols, most times we just flew patrols.

DW, I was a Cub in th eearly 60’s myself, and thanks so much for the info to all! I think that with these pics, especially the Russian site, I can make something passable now. I’ve always said that Scale Modelers are the best, and this response proves it!

Thanks again,

There is an aircraft restoration outfit in Carson City, Nevada that specializes in Albatrosses–there’s usually a dozen or more on hand at any given time. You ought to be able to track them down via the Yellow Pages on on the net. They would CERTAINLY know the correct color!
