Groupbuild anyone ???

Hi guys,

As you can see next to my name, I haven’t been a member long yet, but I have been modeling for over 25 years now (with the classic abssence when girls became more interesting than plastic and balsa ofcourse [;)] ).
Since a few days the idea has been growing to build a BlackHawk in 1/35, my UH1-C (see the post “MRC helicopter from Italery”) is almost finished now.
While reading the posts on this forum I thought why not make it a groupbuild ?

So ; anybody interested in building any bird from the Hawk-family ???

I’m thinking of starting building within the next 3 or 4 weeks, NO deadline, NO expensive aftermarket kits, and I would prefer that people post pictures of the different steps.

Let me know what you people think please.

Sounds very interesting! I’ve a Pavehawk and a Blackhawk, both in 1/35, waiting.
The thing is I’m waiting for a PE set (ammo chutes) to continue the work on the helos.
I’m already in the Hind group-build, but if the start date is in 3 or 4 weeks I might do it.

Howdy,

Sounds like a great way to get some kits moving on my bench. I’ve Italeri’s Pavehawk in 1/48 - does scale matter for this build?

I’ve also got Hasegawa’a Apache Longbow in 1/48 waiting to get started. Anyone interested in an Apache group build? [:)]

I need to get motivated on these kits - been a little sidetracked lately painting a box of 19 warhammer figures!

Jim

Hi Gentz,
I too have gotten back into modeling recently. I have built several helocpters in the past. I built a Huey Hog, Blackhawk, Apache, Blue Thunder and a harrier jump jet.

I’m actually so new that I don’t even know what a group build is. Could one of you please break down a group build for a newbie?

Thanks

I’m in. My MH-60L’s interior is almost done, but I haven’t worked on that in a few weeks since classes are starting to wrap up. I won’t be able to work on it again until the second week of May at the earliest. I’ve been having touble posting my pictures here (not a computer / internet geek). I’m also in the Hind group build, but I’m just going to make a 1/72nd Italeri Mi-24 Hind E out of the box, piece of cake. The MH-60L, I’ve been scratchbuilding details for it, like a working refueling probe (not sure if I’m going to use it) and adding structure detail to the bulkheads and ceiling.
I would also be interested in an Apache group build, but I’m not sure if there are any aftermarket update sets to modernize the Imex AH-64D. I also need to finish my Blackhawk before I get started on a major Longbow Apache project.

Hi guys, glad to see the response so far.
I forgot to mention it but scale DOES NOT matter for this build.

And for the newbies ; a groupbuild is just kind of an agreement that several people are building the same subject (sometimes even same scale and manufacterer, but I won’t go that far) at the same time, usually exact starting date and deadline are set. While building you post some kind of log about your progress, during this build I would like people to also post progress-pictures (if possible).

Anyway, try to get your friends interested in this groupbuild to make it a mass-build [:)]

Let’s see so far :

DanCooper : yes (ofcourse)

Avus : maybe

copterguy : maybe

tsteenbergen : maybe (by the way how do you get such a Flemmish-sounding nick for an American ?)

adrake2: yes

Hey that makes only twice YES so far,

Would May 25 be OK for everybody for starting ???

My real name is Travis Steenbergen. The last name Steenbergen is Dutch meaning “Stone Hills”.

I would love to do a group build but I barely have enough time to complete my current Gemini Project. I work full time 10+ hours per day and I’m in school trying to complete my undergrad. Group builds sound fun but I need to get time on my side. Mybee in a month or two.

Thanks

May 25th sounds good, but due to my duties, at work and for modelling (Hind group build), I can let you know if I’m in only, let’s say, around the 17th of May.
I’d like to stress that I’m really very interested in ths group build, but on the other hand I’m in a very busy period.

tsteenbergen If I remember my dutch correctly isn’t it more like stone mountains?

I think you are right. I actually decended from pure Kentucky Redneck alcoholics. I don’t put too much faith in what my forefathers told me about my heritage.

As a Flemish (Dutch-speaking Belgian) I can say that Avus is right, the naam means stone mountains.

Well, we won’t be too strict about starting dates, as I mentioned in my first post no deadlines, we all do this hobby for pleasure and relaxation (although sometimes…).

Hey Dan
Count me in. I just bought a 1/35 UH-60L Black Hawk. That date you set for starting is the perfect time for me to finish my LAV-25 TUA. I have never built a black hawk. are they fun to build? This is my first group build. But Defenetly count me in.
Thanks

Count me in too - may 25th is just fine!

Jim

25 May sounds great to me.

I haven’t build one yet either, but I have read and (rered a few times) the review in the July 2001 issue of FSM.

It seems there great kits, but there is a tricky part with the seats, I will explain later (when we have started).

Anyway it’s good see that there are more people in already.

Well guys another check on our counts ;

DanCooper yes
Adrake2 yes
copterguy yes
seaknight yes
Avus maybe
tsteenbergen maybe

It seems that this group has grown a little, good thing, let’s hope some more people get interested shall we ?

I’m really looking forward to it, you too ?

Sorry Guys, I will have to opt out of this one. It sounds like a great project, but I have too much on my plate to actually be of any use to the group.

No problem Travis, just feel free to visit when you want, may be we’ll see you in a next build…

count me in as a definate yes.

I have the Academy Pave Hawk sitting on my desk. Only thing I have sone is built a rapeling system on the roof and put together some crew.

so count me in!!

I got’s me some Hawks on my workbench. Why not?

Dan sounds like a whale of a good time. I too am committed to a trio of Group Builds so I have to pass on this one. But you really should have a finish date. It may become to caotic if you don’t. Thanks. Good luck.
