Group Revell U Boat build

As everyone t’other side of the pond is finally (hopefully) getting their 1/72 U Boat how about a trans-atlantic trans pacific build of the Boot?
Nick.[:D]

Yea, ok, like you had to ask me, didn’t ya???

I’ll be U-242…Turm IV with deck gun…

Jeff

Like it will be done for Friday 5pm?[dinner][:P][;)]

Uhhh, no…I haven’t even opened the box yet…and I can’t do it on Friday, because I’m meeting these folks from the UK…after subjecting them to a taxi and train ride from Manhattan!!!

J

PS: It’s beer and pizza nite on Friday, so we won’t be doing dinner prior…

In theory I like it. However, I have alot of kits going now. Could we plan on doing this say in the fall. Would give everybody interested a chance to get their kits, and any aftermarket parts and pieces. And some of us a chance to catch up. Also riding season will be winding down and “modeling season” beginning again.

good idea…wait til all the goodies are available!

Guess that means I’m casting lots more tower conversions, huh? [%-)]

Jeff

I think its a good idea as well should we say about september time?.that should give Jeff time to cast about 200 towers! I have my $15 clutched in my little hand!

OK, Jeff. Sounds like your back into the resin casting business again.[:D][:P][banghead][banghead]

And I’m thinking that Sept would be the perfect time to start.[:D][tup]

Agree 100%. The kit is a super starting point, but it really deserves the full treatment, because the details will show up really well on it. It’s as big as a Tamiya 1/350th ship (or bigger!) but is a way smaller scale, so every little fitting is that much more visible.

Photoetch, resin superdetailing parts, aftermarket crew, the whole nine yards – now THIS is a kit that screams “superdetail me!”

It’s just too bad they didn’t do a Fleet Boat – you know, the subs that won their commerce war? [:p] (Can’t even begin to imagine why Revell AG went for the U-Boat. Heh heh.)

[:-,]Just imagine… If such a sub were made by Heller (from France) we might have had the “Surcouf!”[sigh]

“Should we prosper it shall be as is our custom…bny Miracle!”[4:-)]

Has anyone heard of someone converting this kit to RC?

go to www.subcommittee.com, log on to the message boards, search for revell type VII…a couple of vendors are comtemplating conversion accessories for this model.

I already finished mine…

I have three more to do…

Larry

I’m contemplating doing several tower conversions…you’ll be responsible for the rails and weapons…unless someone else out there wants to do patterns for the weapons…

Right now, I’m working on a Turm IV, for either a single or twin 37mm on the lower level, and twin 20mms on the upper level.

I will keep everyone informed of progress, but my summer is going to be very busy, as I’m recovering six 1:1 scale warbirds for my museum. I’ll be away from home alot.

Jeff

Sure, sure, excuses, excuses!! [:D]
So what you’re saying is you’d rather recover some 1:1 warbirds than build some resin peices for us modelers?

So would I… that would be chance of a lifetime…[bow]

Quick questions Jeff- I’ve starting to build a 1/32 scale turm IV tower, and I’m looking for a pair of twin 20s for the upper wintergarrten. Do you know of any that can be had in 1/35 scale?
Also, would a Tamiya 37 from one of their Sdkf’s work for the lower wintergarten gun?

What goodies, when, where??? gotto have’em, money no object [^]

Seriously, I have two models, (don’t ask) and am waiting till the PE brass and the like hit the market. Any word or better yet, rumor! [:o)]

Any bilge appreciated.

Catsidney

Hi Catsidney ok go to the U boat net a chap in Japan Hiro is producing guns 88mm and 2cm and 3.5 Flak and periscopes, all in white and turned metal John Snyder is producing PE parts, go to white ensigns web site, Jeff is doing towers (please Jeff!)

Nick

Jeff

Count me in on a Turm IV please. Maybe 2, as I have 3 of these kits now, and I want to do at least one late war Typ VIIc as well as possibly backdating to a Typ VIIb, using the Amati kit as a basis.

Ed Arnold

Kath,

That sounds like fun. I’m almost done with my first one, might do another if somebody could twist my arm a bit… ouch. okay… that’s enough. I’ll do another one. I’ll see what’s up in September… we’re on alert again with my guard unit, so I might be ‘elsewhere’ come Sept…so if you don’t hear from me, don’t worry.
