Group builds?

Okay, forgive me here, but I am still relatively new to the site. I just got back into the hobby after being out of it for a few years. I have read the mag for years, but never got on the site much. Anyhow, my question here is about the group builds.

Now I assume you just sign up as they come, right? When a set of start and finish dates is posted, do you generally need to post by the start date, or can you just post and jump in during the build? And last, I saw someone in an earlier post bring up a German WWII group build for two engine minimum airframes, any info on this?

These prolly seem like some pretty easy answers, but I kinda wanna jump into one of these…Thanks!

Good evening(morning) Andrend,

Allow me to extend a belated welcome to Finescale, You will never find a better more knowledgable group of people on the internet. These guys have helped me immensely over the last couple of years.

Regarding group builds your best bet is to check out the group build forum towards the bottom of the list of forums. The degree of strictness(is that even a word?) as far as sign up, start and completion date really varies from build to build and is up to the participants and of course the build creator. Just pop in and ask, I have yet to meet anyone (save for one angry marine) that isnt nice and helpful so you shouldnt have any issues getting the info you need.

Group builds are a lot of fun and a great way to get like minded people and builds together. I participated in a Spitfire group build a few years back and because of the immense amount of knowledge about Spitfires and fine scale modeling all condensed into that relatively small group of people it came out far better then my skill level should have allowed. Look close enough and you will find the infamous Secret Santa group build which is just about the most fun that can be had online. If you arent able to dig up the info you need feel free to let us know. Best of luck on your first group build and again welcome to the Finescale forums

The pinnacle of my modeling career so far, acheived because of a good group build

Hi, and glad you decided tyo join in the forums. Its deffinatly a great place to learn, and loads of nice people. I have been modelling for about 20 yeras but have learnt more in the last year that i have been posting on here than all the years before, and my builds have improved greatly.

As for group builds, i can only echo whats been said. Each build is different and you need to check the rules for want of a better word. Generally speaking the start is the soonest you can start building. Though some GB allow you enter a kit that already been started, though not many. With most builds you can join in any time up untill the finish date. You best bet is to check a few out and dive in to one you like, some guys avoid thyem like the plague, but i have found them a great place to share info and get sdvice, especially when everyone is building a similar subject.

Hope to see you around more, and get over to the GB page.

Group Builds are way cool. They’ve dictated almost everything I’ve built this year.
