Group build badges

Sorry to bring this up, but I’ve noticed many members that add the badge before they actually built their model. Something seems wrong with that. I’ve entered many builds, but only completed my panther, thus the badge. I feel as one should finish their build in order to earn the badge. Otherwise, I’d have a few more of them. This is not a jealousy issue, kind of a moral issue. You get what you deserve so to speak. Anyone else agree?

I agree.

I agree too, and I also have not yet downloaded the badges for the GB’s I’m involved with.

I don’t look at them as a prize but rather a way to show participation.
To me they are more a symbol of fraternity.

Since I don’t view the forum with graphics, I really don’t know who has (or has not) affixed a badge to their graphic signature. I’ve completed two GB’s (MTD and Pz IV) and have none, but it’s really not surprising…

True story: NAS Pensacola, Florida, 2002.

As I stood talking with a couple Navy Chiefs, a Senior Chief next to us pulls aside a 2nd Class Petty Officer (dressed in blues) and proceeded to rip him up - BIG time! After the Petty Officer handed over his ID card and slithered off, one of the Chiefs I was talking to asked the Senior Chief what happened. He came back and told us…

This 2nd Class - all of 22 or 23 years old - was wearing a Vietnam Service Ribbon AND a Purple Heart!!!

When asked why he was wearing these obviously unearned ribbons, the 2nd Class said that he liked the way they looked…so he bought them and started wearing them.

After loosing a stripe, he probably didn’t think they looked so hot anymore!

Enjoy your modeling…

Woody, would it be fair that I entered 10 group builds and never finished a model, but get 10 badges just for saying I’m one with the group? I don’t think so. [:D]

Like I said I don’t see them as rewards or symbols of accomplishment so I don’t think it’s a matter of what’s fair. I don’t think it makes much sense to take and display a badge if you aren’t intending to be active in that build. They are just a nice way to show your affliation to a build. I really didn’t have any idea some people projected that much importance onto them.

I have to agree with Tigerman, posting a badge before the work is done is like walking out of a store with a unpaid candy bar.Digger

I also agree with Tigerman. I even use them as motivators to get me to finish the build and not move onto something else.

[#ditto]i’m with Woody on this one…
If it’s OK with the rest of the GB members to display the tag before finishing then i can’t see a problem…
The Panzer 1V Gb which i’m in is the opposite, unil your finished no badge, and i have no problem with that either…
Just my[2c]…Cheers J.S…

HEY,
I too am with woody. If you arent planning on finishing the build, dont join in the first place. I know things happen but you should take things into acount, other projects, school starting, whatever. I know i am going to finish the builds, so i figure i might as well put it up now. Just my opinion.

Randy

I agree with you Tigerman… In fact I made a badge for Axis Vs Allies, my digital camera takes really crappy pictures, so in a few months I am going to get a new digital camera so I can take pictures of my models to submit to group builds and the one Axis vs Allies GB that I am planning to host.

HEY,
A little of topic but trusty, is that pic in your signature a real plane or is it a model pic that you did a little work on? Looks cool though.

Randy

I agree with you but for the young guns group build and the Huey group build I got the impression that we were allowed to even encouraged to put it on our sig

HEY,
Ya but youve done 8 group builds.lol What do you usually do?

Randy

i think the badges are to show your participation in group builds. it shows that you are in the build, not that you have finished it.

just my $0.02

I thought they were to show participation
But have removed the Panther one in my post, as it upsets you so much, when my Wife has our baby and I get around finishing my panther I will post it away from the panther group build and I won’t try and keep it alive
I’m so ashamed at using the badge as a way of showing who is in the Panther group build
I hope the FSM Police don’t get me now
EDIT
Now is it going too far to delete all my participation in the panther group build?

I guess to me it isn’t fair to the members who actually complete the model. Some never seem to finish, including myself. Just my [2c]

No Jon, don’t do that. I’m certainally not the law around here. I just wondered, since nothing was set in stone, how other members felt about the way badges are used. I, myself, just wouldn’t feel right posting a badge for an incomplete build. It might take me a year to finish, who knows. Since I entered at the starting time and if I actually finish my build, then maybe I might post the badge later. I guess if the originator of the build said fine post it for recognition, then whatever. I was just feeling out other’s thoughts on this loose practice. As far as I know there are no rules on posting badges. Didn’t mean to ruffle any feathers. [:)]

“the plane in my picture is real, only the stories are fake, I am not a real doctor but I do play a captain on TV, these voyages are my voyages with the StarShip Enterprise our strange mission, to seek out new life and civilization, to oldly go no where that man has gone before…” (ooops did I say “oldly”?, I meant BOLDLY)… [dinner]
