I had the Idea to build this 1/48th P-51 in a depot level repair (or like a current day restoration)

Having been in aviation for over 20 years (US Army RET) I have a desire to show whats there inside. Well, I needed to display my idea in an understandable setting. So I built this wing cradle based on what we used to store rotor blades for our helicopters. I had seen several different pictures on the internet that showed many different ways to store and work on wings…mostly what I had seen were pictures of mechanics using what they had at hand to build support tools and stands.

and this is 1 area where 3D printing can come into play. the research is identical. you still need all the details as you would in scratchbuilding, print the finished model which could be used to make a mould. THEN you can make a 3D file in multiple scales or make variations on a theme quite quickly. so spend 6 hours building the 3D computer model file in 1/35 and spend 10 minutes total making a 3D model file in 1/32. 1/48, 1/72, 1/144.

That’s an area I am unfamiliar with being new-back into the hobby 3D modeling sound like fun!
