I’ve seen some builds where the builder used pencil to recreate the grid lines on the saucer, secondary hull, and engines. I’m trying to do that on my build, but having a tough time on the secondary hull. As you know, the hull is kind of a conical shape, so it’s difficult to get a straight line. Does anyone have experience with doing this? I did the engines using some 3x5 card wrapped around them. Wanted to do the same on the secondary hull, but it’s not working out so well. I could mask it with tape, but I want to avoid that if possible. What say you?
I haven’t done it my self (I have that kit, but I’m not adding the lines), but for the circles I would try a compass. I think the 3x5 card would work for the radial lines.
You know what, Gerry, I ended up getting frustrated and stopping. I got them done ok on the engines. The secondary hull is also done, but the lines there are very faint. I quit on the saucer after several abortive attempts. I’m just going to finish it up where it’s at and call it good. [:S]
I WILL say, I checked out your Reliant thread and I am very impressed with how you did yours. I will have to try that on my next build. I have the Polar Lights 1/1000 Enterprise in my stash yet, so maybe when I pull that out we’ll give it a try again. I’m working on decals now-hope to be able to post up finished pics in a week or so.
