I am new to the FineScale forums and I’m a new subscriber, was well. I have been subscribing to ScaleAuto for years now, however. As a lifelong car and airplane lover, I have been building models of various types since I was small. In the last few years I’ve tried to return to building plastic kits with various degrees of success.
I built a car a couple years ago to “shake the dust off” the ol’ building skills, but since then I’ve had a heck of a time finishing a car. It turns out that my “automotive ADHD” extends to car models, as well. About six weeks ago I got bitten hard by the aircraft bug during the Abbotsford Airshow, so I purchased and started building a Tamiya 1:48 P-51D. There’s a rarely done subject, eh? [8-)] Since beginning this Mustang, I’ve felt a level of satisfaction (and fun!) in I’ve not felt in years with other projects.
In the past I’ve been heavily involved in radio controlled airplanes and free-flight airplanes, as well. During that time I scarcely touched plastic, but amassed a rather decent collection of aircraft reference materials. I intend to put that to good use now that I am returning to plastic models.
Anyway, I do tend to run on, so I’ll wind it up. In the next few days, I will try to scan and upload some photos of my previous work, as well as a few in-progress photos of my current project.
As I said I would, I am going to attempt to post some photos of some of my previous projects. I know some of them aren’t what you would normally see here in FineScale, but I thought y’all might like to see them anyway. My apologies if I am violating a policy; I really did read through the rules!
First, a Ford Crown Victoria I did a few years ago to resemble a buddy’s former detective car.
This model is displayed on my desk at work, and has gotten several “parking lot dings”, but overall, I think it displays somewhat decently.
Here’s a few free-flight planes I’ve done, most are CO2 powered, but the camo Mustang is rubber powered.
I like to build for fun. For me, if I’m not having fun, then there’s little point in it. With my FF planes, I liked them to resemble the aircraft I’m depicting, but building an absolutely true to scale free-flight model that actually flies well can be difficult. Basically, I get my projects as close as I can to what I want them to look like, and don’t worry about absolute fidelity unless I plan to enter it in a contest.
And of course I forgot to post pics of my current project. I didn’t think to take any photos until the fuselage halves were about to be joined, so I haven’t gotten any others at this point, but here ya go.
Thanks modlecrazy. I’d be happy to show you some of my R/C stuff, but I didn’t have a digital camera when I was in that hobby. I do wish I’d been able to finish the Dave Platt P-51 I had. Ahh well, on to other projects!
I tried to post some pics of some of my past projects, and the post is likely being moderated, or awaiting approval, but I think I goofed on the picture posting, so I’ll give it another whirl.
First, my current project, a Tamiya 1:48 P-51D. I didn’t think to get any pics of this one until the fuselage halves were ready to be joined. This kit is the first plastic airplane kit I’ve built in probably close to 30 years, I thnk.
I also think I may have tried to post too many pics in my previous post so I will put up photos of my free-flight planes and my last car model in another post.
Also welcome to the club. I’ve been building for 68 of my 74 years and also flew R/C, FF, Stick & Tissue, Indoor stick & microfilm, and both indoor and outdoor HL Gliders. All the while remaining a plasticaholic. I still keep learning something new almost every day from the guys, and gals on the Forum.
Alright, now that I’ve gotten the hang of posting pictures, here’s the ones from yesterday that I goofed up.
The Crown Vic, from the Lindberg Ohio State Highway Patrol kit:
The free-flight planes. The Mustangs and the Corsair are Herr Engineering kits, the B-25 is a Guillows, and the FW-190 is…uhm…West Wings, or Wild Wings, something like that, I think.
