Great Scale Modeling 2004

We received a great deal of feedback through the Warbird Modeling poll, so let’s do the same thing with GSM 2004, which has been out for a couple of weeks now. As with WM, I’m just curious: What’s your favorite article in GSM 2004?

Again, I’m leaving this thread unlocked so members can add comments if they like. After you’ve finished this part, check out Part 2 of the poll.

I have to say-- my favorite picture in the issue is the modeler Hulk on pg. 39…somehow I can relate to him [;)]

I have already cut out that picture and it is prominently shown on my workbench!

Ben Guenther’s Vought Vindicator is very impressive! I would like to see more of his craftsmanship displayed. Very fine work. [8D]

the Hulk was my fav too. I thought it was hilarious and very creative

Tom Morgans WWI aircraft were excellent
The detail was great [^]

I like Guenther’s 1/72 Vindicator too. Impressive. I’d really like to see more pics/detail on this model and any others like it.

The Hulk was definitely an attention getter. Wish the pic was a bit bigger.

I really enjoyed whole magazine, but I was VERY disappointed that the diorama of the B-17 on the cover was not shown inside! Why would you do such a horrible thing, foul temptress?

I would have liked to see more Sci-fi and Space included in the Annual.

I love them all … It gives me more idea on my next project…

I thought it was all very good but I reckon that David Vicker’s “Friendship of Unsung Heroes” diorama was the best as there were several focal points andthere is a lot of “atmosphere” in it. A Truce for Water diorama is another with a lot of interest and a different subject matter. I too would have liked to see the whole cover diorama. John Eian’s Cold War fighter mini theme was interesting with several of the same aircraft. The Laying the Groundwork article is a typical FSM article maybe FSM could consider doing a special edition on diorama construction? I would have liked to see more of Mark Jone’s superdetailed Caterham Super Seven as there is a heap of extra stuff on that model.

Hi Lawrence,

It’s tough to pick just one. My top three are:

  1. Ben Guenther’s Vought Vindicator – absolutely fantastic detailing at any scale!

  2. Tom Morgan’s WWI aircraft – More fantastic scratchbuilding. WWI planes are built in such a way that nearly everything is visible. Mr. Morgan’s stuff is simply fantastic. I’d like to know how he did the snow base on the M-S monoplane diorama.

  3. Truce for Water – I loved this diorama because of it theme. We so often seem to forget the basic humanity of the people involved in war. This was a nice antidote to some of the bloodier entries in the magazine.

But everything else in the issue was fantastic! My only gripe is that there seemed to be one heck of a lot of WWII German subjects. In fact, it seemed that WWII German kits and figures made up hall the magazine! I may be exaggerating, but I did get tired of looking at one more German (fill in the blank).

I also would like to see more real space and sci-fi stuff there.

Thanks for a great issue of GSM!

Regards,

I agree that it was disapointing that the B-17 was on the cover but not in the magazine. I felt gypped(sp).

NONE!
My favorite item in the magazine would be the B-17 on the cover… but when i was about to get the magazine oh surprise there´s no B-17 on the inside!! was disapointing, now i have one question: why was that pic choosed to be on the cover if the plane wasnt gonna be in the topics??

you shouldnt do that!! [:(!]

Hector.

what an impossible situation: the whole issue was great!
i do agree with hector about the b-17 though – i would have bought the issue anyway, but that image really got my hopes up.
(and yes, i have ‘warbird modelling’ and last may’s issue with the yb-40.)

To tell the truth ( in my opinion)all the contents were No.1 but John Eian’s Jets are Delightfull!..and I missed the B-17 on inside so I felt my skin become green too!.[^]

Overall very nice and very enjoyable. I was a little disappointed that the B-17 diorama did not make it into the pages itself.[:(]

Desert-Eagle

i absolutely loved the whole magazine. espscially " surrender at remagen bridge ". keep up the good work FSM.[bow]

Favorite model in Great Scale Modeling 2004?
That’s easy… MINE! [:D]

I haven’t read it, but…

How many times do you have to place it on the home page AND include an annoying pop-up (everytime I enter the site) for the same magazine? In my opinion, once is enough. One spot on the home page and have the pop up appear only once; the first time I enter the site. Is there any way you can program the pop up to appear only once? If I was interested in purchasing the magazine, I’d click the link.

I thought the magazine overall was great except that some of the photos were exceptionally “grainy”. The photo of the Me110 on p52 is horrible. My favorite was the German “tank hunter class” diorama, excellent subject.
