On 07/07/06 I pre-ordered an AFV35100 MK 5/1 Centurion for $18.35 from Great Models. Thought I made a great deal until I saw the price of $34.00 on my account. Seems they had a glitch with their pricing. Since the price was too much for me I had to cancel the order. If you ordered the kit at $18.35 as I did you may want to check the price again before they ship it. Has anyone else had the same problem?
I agree. It’s their problem. I once got away with a $1.35 Pz III, because of a price error! They burned me later with some shipping BS. I suppose that’s what I deserved.
Email Loic directly at loic@greatmodels.com or try to talk to Anne at the very least. They’ll be able to help you out. Just don’t rub it in about France blowing it in the World Cup, he’s probably quite upset!
I wish I knew that about the pricing. I had the Dragon Tiger I locked in at the pre-price of $24.75 or something like that. Well…a month late it jacked up to $32. I said what? I just bagged it, thinking it’s too bad they didn’t honor their original price.
Some pepole love this place and have had no problems with them.Just cant say the service has been that good for me. Never got my first order from them, so after three months gave up and cancel the order. So I gave them another chance a few months later and order some tracks and a AFV Club Tiger kit from them.Almost gave up on that one also. But after about four weeks I finally got my second order.Dont know why the service was so slow and poor myself.I would use them again, if I had to, just woudnt get in a hurry to get my stuff thats all. They have a great selection but i dont think they keep some the stuff in stock so it will take for ever to get your order.
I haven’t had much trouble with their sister, kitlink. Once, I had a problem with kitlink, it gave me an error when I was ordering. It ended up double ordering, so their was a bit of trouble. I wasn’t pleased with the way it was solved, but I suppose they got me back for the Pz.III. I ordered from them after that, until I couldn’t get their site to work anymore. Turns out it was Firefox, not them. I downloaded Opera so I can use them again. They only get about a third of my orders anymore. Luckymodels gets most of my Interweb purchases these days.
I contacted Anne via e-mail about the price difference on the kit and she said that since it was a pre-order price it was subject to change once the model was in inventory. This is their written policy and is correct. However, if I had not checked my order online I would have been charged $34.00 instead of the $18.35 I thought was the price. In such a case I beleive they should notify the customer prior to charges being applied to the order. Thanks all.
Unless it says in there user agreement that you agree that the price may change they cannot change once you agree to the transaction. Website tend to get away with this stuff because nobody wants to get a lawyer involved over $15.65. Credit cards can flux rates because that is the part of your agreement.
Hmmm, bummer! I do seem to recall getting their newsletter that mentioned something about unexpected price increases on pre-orders, but ignored it as I don’t pre-order in the first place. I agree they should have tracked the price increase and notified you directly.
I have heard many complaints about Great Models, though I’ve never had an issue. Perhaps that is because I make sure I never order anything that isn’t listed as in stock?
I’d cut them some slack on the price increase, but complain about the lack of prior notification before billing the credit card. Prices tend to be based on volume and quite often with pre-orders what a webstore wants isn’t what they get. They are also customers in the supply chain and sometimes don’t get as many kits as they’ve ordered, hence the increase. The price increase is typically with the manufacturer, not the webstore.
You said it, Bill. Again though, this sort of thing also relates to our LHS. There prices can be “high” because they have to purchase kits in order to sell them. I don’t like to pre-order because I like to know when I am going to receive my goods. At any rate, it seems they got you on this one. Did they use so curtesy and civility in this matter? I think that is best you can hope for. It would be nice if you could get an email asking if you still want to go through with the purchase in the event of these circumstances.
Since you guys obviously have more experience with Great Models that me, what does it mean in the “order status” page when it says “searching for” instead of “in stock”? Does that mean it’s out of stock or that they are just in the process of putting my order together? I placed the order yesterday at about 4 pm. When I placed the order, it said that the seatbelts I wanted were in stock.
I’ve checked out Luckymodels and almost bounced my jaw off the floor. I couldn’t believe the prices, but after shipping is added I can get it at pretty much the same price as my LHS. If I need to order I go with Squadron, have for about 15 years. They have never screw my order up once. My [2c]
