Great free resource

I’ve seen a few requests about a certain color scheme of model X, or where to put a certain decal etc… some people might not have used this and it may seem simplistic but it has worked for me!

Go to www.google.com and click on the images link at the top of the page. Type in the model you are researching. For a recent build I used SBD, SBD-5, Dauntless etc… went through all ways to designate the type pf dive bomber I wanted. Not only did I find exactly the paint scheme for almost the exact plane I was looking for but all kinds of pics of battle damaged planes etc… that gave me tons of ideas for weathing etc…

Then I usually go back and search google again on the regular web section. You can find a lot of history of the model here, as well as specs etc for markings and such.

I know some of them are harder to come by than others but for the most part everything I have wanted has been out there! I’ve even found some kits either to have the wrong decal set, even an entirely wrong instrument panel on one helicopter this way! And I definitely almost always find a descrepancy on the colors they tell you to paint the things… (paint interior light grey, then go to the web and find it all done in dark grey and black in original photos from the era)

Like I said, seems a little easy and maybe everyone knew this, but if you haven’t you never know what you might find!

Hi ya tho9900

Thanks for passing along the great research tip … isn’t the internet great ???

I have trouble remembering the “dark ages” … you know before the 'net … [swg]

haha that was discussed a bit in another forum recently… back when they internet was in back and white, black and green or black and orange… no home pages, no back buttons on the browser… just FTP, Gopher, telnet etc…

And you already had to know the address of a web page to find it!!

yeah I tried google on a whim at work one day looking for info on my first build after a 12 yr break on modelling… I was amazed what came up!! I couldn’t do without it now… in fact all of the color scheme etc questions I have answered here were done using the same… thats why I finally decided to post it… some people might have not tried that images button…

BTW: when you search for p-40 or p-39 don’t do it with your kids around…for some reason this is a frequent pic name used for porn sites haha… I did it at work one day and was madly clicking for the little X before someone saw… go figure…

The stuff on the net is amazing—all the more because somebody, somewhere, loves it enough to realize somebody else might be looking for it. What really convinced me was when I found not one, but several sites showing interiors for the Scottish Aviation Bulldog, of all things. These are wild times to be modeling, for sure!
