Found this while walking around a local show last week. 1986 reissue of the 1/72 Shuttle with Boosters! I’ve been wanting this kit ever since I saw a build up on display at a hobby store in Denver.
Best part - I got it for $40!

Congrats on that find! ![]()
I think built this kit with my dad when I was a kid! Does it have that black plastic base with “prongs” that stick up into the rocket cones, and a chrome “NASA” on the front?
Well, he built it and I “helped.” I think the orbiter is still in a box somewhere. I remember him using some kind of Rustoleum primer to get the red fuel tank color right, and a sharpie to do all the details on the boosters and the orbiter. I also recall asking if we could use the “Challenger” decals because the disaster had just happened, and I was a six-year-old and explosions were exciting… He wisely said “no” and we made our shuttle Colombia.
Wow! What a find. It must be huge at that scale.
Yep - completed model is about 20 inches tall!
