Good starters compressor ?

Could someone please tell me a good starters compressor. I’ve only used cans so I don’t know much about compressors. What do I need to get with it? What should I look for? Are there quiet ones you can get?

And finally, do any of my fellow Sydney modellers out there know of good ones that I can buy in Sydney ?

Check out your local hardware stores AJ, your best bet IMO is to get a light industrial compressor. They are usually a lot less costly than a hobby compressor and also have the bonus of other uses. Be sure to get one with a pressure regulator on it and also get a moisture trap at the same time.

In regards to your other post about splattering … it could be because of the cans too.

As usual Shermanfreak is on top of things. Try Wal Mart, they tend to go on sale for $80 or less. Well worth it over time. Good luck.‘’

Yes, get the light industrial compressor, 5 minutes or less of noise then you can air brush all day. The extra uses like filling up car tires and air tools are a great way to sell the wife/girlfriend on getting one. The money’s about the same hobby compressor vs. light industrial… I got a sears on sale about ten years ago. good luck.

aj;
Im not sure if I to late with this info, only just had the time to go over the forum more detail than usual and found your post.

[:(!]I am talking from experience [:(!]it is better to get a light industrial compressor. I have just replaced my hobby compressor with one.

As where to find them here in Australia - Kmart occassional has them in there tool department (that where I obtained mine from earlier this year at a cost of $120). Other possiblities are Bunnings Hardware , Mitre Ten, and other large hardware stores.

As shermanfreak recommended get a comination pressure regulator and moisture trap, they can also be found at the hardware stores.

Even though it a little late hope this helps.

After scanning ebay almost everyday to find cheap compressors, you guys gave me a relief when you mention about the light industrial compressors. In Malaysia, they are half the price of hobby compressors. Regular hobby compresors plus filter and regulator costs RM450 =US118 while a 2hp light industrial compressor cost RM189=US49 but minus the filter n regulator but with tank.

I am almost certain of getting one myself. the only worry is the couplers and connectors. I have to look for compatible connectors to connect them to small airbrush connectors. One question though, do all light industrial compressors comes with regulator?.

normally, light industral air compressors do NOT come with the regulator. Follow the advice of others, and go to your local hardware store. There you can find regulators, plus any fittings you may need to hook it up, for under $20.
