good Sabre kits

whats a good beginer modeler kit of the f86 sabre?

thanks

oh yeah, 1/48 plz

I do not have any standard F-86’s but I do have the ProModeler F-86D Dog Sabre and it is a great kit. I think that Hasegawa has some in 1/48 and I am sure that they are great kits.

Welcome Graham!

to answer your question I would recommend the Academy or Hasagawa kits in 1/48. Both are nicely detailed and go together well. They are not too complicated and give clear instructions.
If you need any more help, just ask.

Darren.

Iv’e built 3 of the Hasegawa kits (check-out the “Mig Mad Marine” thread for images of one of them) and they are well detailed and pretty straight forward to build. Not exactly a begginers kit, but close enough. I haven’t built the Acadamy kit, but it has gotten fairly positive reviews.

A buddy of mine said the Academy kit was slightly better to him. I don’t have either kit yet. I have several of the old Monogram kits and the new “Dog” model.

Melgyver what do you thinki of the “Dog,” other than the bad decals?

Looks real good in the box! I’m more of “collector” these past few years than a “builder”. I still need to get the Revell kit with the defferent drag chute housing. I have started back on a 1/35 UH-1C kit lately.

jimz66, I built the Revell-Germany version of the Sabre Dog a while back and it is a very nice kit. Fairly easy build with no major vices. The Monogram kit is identical, except for the drag chute and decals. The decals are poor in both kits, but there are some excellent aftermarket sheets available, at a price of course.

Yeah I know I just like that one with Dennis the Mennace on the front. I made photocopies of the decals today so I may try to cut out the wolfhead or whatever it is. Then I will use them for a stencil.

i think that is the one at the USAF museum, that is the one I want to build.

From looking in the box and dry fitting some parts, the Academy 1:48 F-86 looks to be a great kit. Kinda intimidating for a beginner, however as it has so many parts

I’m currently putting together the 1/48 Academy F-86F Sabre, and kit is a rather good kit, with few exceptions. for some reason, the fusealage halves don’t fit together quite right, and there is a lot of sanding to be done near the intake, of course, these are just minor hicoughs that some sanding paper, putty and patience can’t mend. I’m wanting to get the monogram dog sabre after this, too! [:)]

Afternoon, all. I have built the Academy 1/48 F86 and just finished the Revell-Germany “Dog”. They both went together a treat, are nicely detailed with recessed panel lines and look stunning when weathered.
The decals are as thick as two planks of wood and I chose to go with aftermarket stuff for the “Dog”, but too late for the Academy. Didn’t realise how bad the Academy decals were until I started to apply them.
I have to of the old Monogram Sabres, and compared to the Academy one , they aren’t so great (sorry to all the Monogram fans out there). But with care and thought, they won’t look too bad.
Don’t be intimidated by the number of parts in the kit…this is a GOOD thing!! Just take your time and go step by step.
I’ll post pics in a week or two…My current bird is the F4 J Black Bunny just cos I like it so much and the Tomcat Black Bunny looks kinda lonely on the shelf by itself…
Then there’s the White Bunny…bunnies everwhere heheh
