Good panther reference book?

There are some good tiger books out there, I have several. Who publishes some good panther books. I am looking for combat photos and good technical photos. Thanks, Greg.

Two books come to mind off the bat:

  1. “The Spielberger German Armor and Military Vehicles Series - Vol I: Panther and Its Variants”, published by Schiffer. Gives excellent detail shots of all number of Panthers. The only quibble I have with it is that it has more photos of vehicles in factory than it does of vehicles in operational use. It’s still a very, very good reference, worth its price easily, especially if you’re interested in the IR setups for the “Night Fighting” Panthers and other oddities.
  2. “Germany’s Panther Tank - Quest for Combat Supremacy” by Jentz, also published by Schiffer. I’ve only managed to read small parts of this book, but liked what I read. Good photos, straightforward appraoch to characteristics of the vehicle. Thomas Jentz is a dedicated researcher about German armor, and is considered top notch. I;d buy it if I were a die-hard Pantherphile.

If you decide to buy the two books above, I suggest going through Schiffer directly.

HTH,

Osprey “Panther Variants '42-'45” is excellent

If you want technical, visit Tom Jentz and Hilary Doyle’s Panzer Tracts site:

the Tankpower books on the Panther are great they do 7, lots of info, line drawings, and photos
the Germany’s Panther Tank - Quest for Combat Supremacy" by Jentz is a great book
Rytons Panther book is good
Osprey “Panther Variants '42-'45” is a good book but if it was like there book on the Tiger, tiger 2, t 34s and IS-2 it would be better
Concords book on the Panther has good photos in it but the captions on some are wrong
you should start with
the AJpress Tankpower Panther books 1 - 7 (if you can get them) and the Germany’s Panther Tank - Quest for Combat Supremacy

I agree with captain caveman that the tankpower series are a good investment…You cant go wrong with them. They have line drawings, colour plates plenty of pics and info.

Dave

Cant go wrong with Squadron/Signal either. They do a nice one on the Panther. I got mine for 4.99 on Evilbay. Just need to shop around. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys, someone out there always knows! Greg.

I got the Armor at War Series through Military Book Club and it is very nice with lots of line drawings, photos and tech data. Panther by Spielberger and Feist has many great closeups and clear pictures. Unfortunately, no color line drawings.
