Has anyone seen Sahara. Not the new one out in theaters but the old war one that takes place in Africa with the British tank crew and the well? what did you guys think about it
And what is the name of the Clint Eastwood Movie where he and his crew are facing off a German tank crew, defending a bank, and they two crews decide to rob the bank with all its gold in it? has does anyone know which one im talking about?
The original Sahara was a great flick. The Clint Eastwood movie was called Kelly’s Heroes. They were not guarding the bank. They set off on a private mission, behind enemy lines to go and rob the bank. The Army Brass, who are hearing reports of an American unit fighting their way deep into the German lines think it is a masterful assault to break the German defenses. The mission snowballs as Kelly, Clint Eastwood, keeps picking up troops to help out along the way and it snowballs into a major operation with the brass thinking one thing, and those on it knowing it is all for the gold. Great flick.
If you want movies with good armor footage, check out ‘A Bridge Too Far’ and ‘Patton’.When I say good footage of armor I mean cinematicaly, not historicaly.
The original Sahara starred Humphrey Bogart, and his AMERICAN tank crew in Africa. It was a genuine M3. He runs across a hodge podge British unit, who join up with him, and head for the well. A great flick.
Sahara was a great movie. They also did a cable channel remake a few years ago, with - I believe- Jim Belushi in the Bogart role. Not nearly the same, but not bad. Speaking of buying DVD’s, I made a score at the local Best Buy over the weekend (using a gift card birthday present). Picked up A Bridge Too Far, Tora Tora Tora, Enemy at the Gates and Kelly’s Heroes, all for 40 bucks.
Great movies. Another one I like is the Bridge at Remagen. It has some nice armor scenes with Chaffees and Shermans as well as a 251 rumbling across the bridge.
Just watched Tai Guk Gi, which was a recent Korean movie based on the Korean War. It was actually pretty ggod, but you get that typical loss of feeling with the dubbing. A couple times I was thinking Where’s Godzilla? Has some Shermans in it, but mostly infantry and very gory.
Actually Rob, the Israeli’s never called that version of tank a Ti-67. That was a media incvention during the 1967 war. They have always called it either Tiran 4, 5, or 6 depending on which Soviet block tank was the base.
I got called on that on the Israeli armor forum and learned a lesson! However, with as much Israeli armor as i build, The Beast is in my DVD player quite often.
I love A bridge to Far. Also longest day, BRidge over the river Kwai… Havent see Bridge at Remagen. Sahara was a good one. The new one. Different from the book. As always. But still good. Didn’t know there was an old one though.
