I’m currently in Tokyo on business and just made a good deal at a LHS. Walked out with 2 Tamiya and 2 Hasegawa kits (all in 1/48) and saved some $$$.
If you do travel, remember what is exotic/foreign to us in the U.S. will be everyday for the locals, hence a bit cheaper. Even better, you support a LHS. [:)]
This was my plan when I PCSed from Oki, I was going to go out and buy up a bunch of Hasegawa and Tamiya kits right before the movers came to pack us up and just have them added into the existing stash. Unfortunately, things quickly got rushed and I didn’t get to make my last trip to the LHS there. Good advice, though, Dragonfire. Makes me wish I had done a better job of planning ahead.
I could hear my wife rolling her eyes over the phone when I told her I was “going to look” [:D]; and I’m pretty sure she just shook her head when I told her of the buy [:D]. Now I just need to make the time to build them. Hopefully I’ll be home for the most of May.
One of the great things about Japan (at least from a hobby perspective) is the proliferation of LHSs! There are at least six within walking distance fo my apartment in Osaka. Gotta love it!!
