Hey everyone, Spectre and I are going down to the Patton Museum with our dad’s this Thursday and Friday. I’m bringing along my my digi cam and about 5gb’s worth of memory cards(4gb primary and 1gb spare). Does anyone have any picture requests? You know, like a certain angle of the King Tiger or a close up of the Pershing’s drive sprocket? That kind of thing. I’d be more than happy to help. By the way, this will be our first time there and we’re more than a bit excited.
OMG! I am OD green with envy. I visited the museum once a long time ago with my S.O. and found it hard to breathe even then with all the cool militaria about. Unfortunately, I was not able to spend much time due to the spouse’s disinterest. Fearing for my life I reluctantly agreed to depart. I’m certain that any pic’s would be awesome especially one’s of the more obscure items.
Bring picture IDs, proof of insurance and vehicle registration if you plan on entering main post. You can get to the museum without entering main post, but there are also some restored tanks displayed around the main parade field (Brooks Field has an M4A3E8, XM803 and XM800T).
The vast majority of the old armor on post has been towed to the museum’s motor pool (Richardson Motor Park) near a place called French Range (it is the gun range open to the public). There should be signs or ask the gate guard for directions to French Range. Richardson is a stone throw from French Range.
Other tanks are just sitting in a parking lot in front of the historic LST building. That is on Eisenhower Ave, about 2 miles from the museum. Just down the street from Burger King, easy to get to, but if you need to ask for directions to the main BK, not the one at the PX food court. About a half dozen post war US tanks parked like the crews just ran across the street to the mess hall.
If the Panther II is there, how about a few nice color pics of that? I should say the Panther II chassis with the Panther Ausf. G turret mounted in it. You’re lucky, have fun and enjoy.
New rules in effect, even with military ID, you will need to enter through the Chaffee Gate (old Bullion Gate). You will have to stop at the Visitor’s Center and get a pass, unless you have current DoD window stickers.
Geist: I’m going all OD in 2010 so that would be great!.. any pictures of a Stuart, Lee, Pershing and Sherman (M4A1 specifically) would be helpful. With the amount of photos you plan to take it would help us here if you would post them in subcategories by vehicle and let us grab what we want.
Thanks for offering, very neighborly of you[C):-)]! I wish I could go to!
