Wednesday I had to drive her to a drs appointment in Tyler (65 miles south of here) When she got through at the dr, she wanted to stop at HL to look at the puzzles. While we were there I naturally migrated to the models. When she came and got me to go she said that there were more kits on the puzzle aisle. When i went over to look at them, I found the 1/48 B-1B from RevellGermany for $37.00 !!! When my mother saw my rather obvious interest in it (especially at that price!!) she said "put it in the basket. I’ll tell your dad that it’s a late christmas present for you. Aint mothers grand?? Now I need to add on to the house to house the thing!!
WOW!!! Now that is cool. I either get the “You are too old for models” or “Don’t you have enough?” Worst part is, my wife gives me the same speech
You have a great Mom. Good luck with the B-1.
Regards, Rick
What would we do without our mom’s. Don’t forget to give her a big hug and say thanks.
Jerry
Allready done, plus I cooked her dinner that night and tomorrow night I’ll be cooking again!!
Funny thing is, she used to complain about me buying models when I was a kid, and now this??
Any doctor’s visit gives a refreshing outlook on life. You realize it is too short and precious to waste, and you gotta enjoy it while you can! LOL Congrats on your new large kit!! Can’t wait to see some pics!
BTW, my fiance is from Tyler. I try talking her into moving back so we can afford a house, but she won’t have it. [V]
The houses here are really cheap. I looked at a house here in Greenville that would cost us 90,000 but I know would sell for about 450,000 in Ca. Keep talking to her. You can tell her the schools here are better and less crowded, the cost of living is a lot lower and it’s just healthier here than in Ca. I know, I lived in Sacramento for 24 years.
90K!!!
Holy crap I need to move!! We pay a little over 12K in rent a year, and have been here for 3.
Do you guys have an avionics shop at your airport Kevin? You and I could be working together very soon…lol
Yes we do. But the guy that runs it is an A** Hole in all capital letters. He needs some competition. If you’re good you could have him ran out in no time. Let me talk to my boss and see if I can’t work a deal for you to work for him as he wants to have a shop that offers complete aircraft repair and maintenance. Better yet, if you’re serious about this, I’ll give you his phone number.
Kevin I have been checking out some property prices online for Texas…I think we are definately sold…My friend just bought a condo out here one bedroom 800 sq ft. for 330K…This move will take a couple years though, as I need to finish repairing my credit, and save up some loot first. But we may be hanging out at the LHS and/or airport together in the near future.
What airport do you work at, and what is the company name the A S S (edit that one) runs? I would like to do some research on the airport and surrounding area!
Edit: when the hell did FSM turn on the filters?! I can’t stand being edited one frickin bit!!
how big is the box?
jees! I just checked out the price of the model and even squadron sells it for $85 bucks!
what’s an HL?
Heath, The airport is Majors Field, Greenville, Tx (GVT is the airport code). His business is called Majors Avionics. The city seems to be interested in developing the airport and they are doing everything they can to get businesses in here. They recently fired the airport manager and replaced him with one that is “a little more aviation oriented” The economy here is fairly decent. I’m looking forward too meeting you!!
I’m sorry, almost forgot!!
Jinithith: HL is Hobby Lobby, The box is about 36" by 18" by 6" (I’m doing that from memory) The amazing thing is the fuselage is broken down to three parts too make it fit that box!!
…grand, perceptive, generous, insightful…etc…etc…Kevin
mine’s on a severely fixed income and her health is akin to her age and the raising of 5 rambunctious boys…
she overheard me giggling while i was visiting with a modeling mate online & when i relayed that we were typing about who’d get the Paasche VLS from Bearair first (he’s in Oz [:-^]and i’m in the N’oreast U.S.) she, hobbled over to me on the computer and handed me a check for the airbrush & shipping…whew
mom’s are so beyond words sometimes…not always for their generosity but, for their innate & insightful perceptions…
…don’t mean to steal the thread, just had to offer my [2c]
