I’m working on an ICM Model A kit, which includes some long, thin rods. At the suggestion of another modeler, I’m replacing the fragile plastic rods with 0.5 mm brass ones. But I’m not sure what glue I should use for attaching the brass to the polystyrene parts. Would it be CA? Thanks!
I have used CA with brass to good effect.
CA for sure. I typically use thin CA with accelerator but if you need time to position the pieces then medium or thick CA gel followed with accelerator would be an option.
I would suggest Gators Grip, specifically designed for PE brass to styrene…
He has shut down his website but as the directions say, contact him directly…
Beats the heck outta any brand or type of CA…
I recently discovered a black, flexible superglue that I have enough confidence in, that I am going to attempt assembling a sheet aluminum body, with it. It bonds those old, super-slick two-piece Revell slicks, and they don’t even want to come apart!
Hello!
There’s one trick I would like to share - especially useful when glueing metal with CA. Moisten both surfaces to be glued with solvent (like Tamiya extra thin, acetone, MEK, butyl acetate - something like this) and then apply CA as usual. My impression is that then CA grips faster and holds stronger. Hope this helps - good luck with your modelling projects and have a nice day!
