I am doing the Tamiya Skyraider and it calls for gloss black interior. How do you make that look good? I suppose a dullcote on top but how do you apply a wash to a gloss b lack cockpit? The [propellar is also gloss black and I don’t like it. I like flat colors.
I can understand where you are coming from. Gloss black where they are calling for it seems unusual. The Skyraiders I was around were not that color and I’ve never seen a glossy propeller. If it were me, IMHO, I would paint it the color I am comfortable with. Maybe some others have more information.

I agree with Saddlemire, although I’ve never been around operational Skyraiders. I usually go for a satin black, and drybrush that lightly in grey for the cockpit detail. A little color for the dials and knobs, plus some gloss for the instruments and Bob’s your uncle. Well used props never stay glossy, even if they started out that way.
The A-1E/H’s of the 22 SOS, NKP had flat black over greenish chromate for the interiors. Most were well worn and bare metal wear was obvious. Prop blades were flat black w/red tips. You have to remember that these were old birds and maintenace had to be scheduled around mission requirements. Many a/c flew with “DIFM” tags hanging around the cockpit. A/c usually got repainted while in for 'Phase" maintenance. which could be any where from 6-9 months. This was normally done at Da Nang by RAM teams. When the a/c returned from there they were normally made the commander’s bird because it looked like new. That lasted only a few weeks as the sludge, sun and everything else wore the finish down.
As any one can tell you, if they’re flown, they’re dirty! Hope this helps[2c]
