Glencoe "Spirit of St. Louis" good or bad?

I’d like to build a plastic model of the “Spirit of St. Louis”.
What’s the Glencoe kit like? Buildable[:)] or kindling[:(!]?
Thanks,

Which Glencoe kit? I have the History of aviation kit in 1/110 with the wright flyer and calling it a kit is generous. I haven’t seen anything larger by them.

Looked up the 1/48. It looks pretty good. The lines macth up. I don’t know constuction details but it looks okay.

In any case, there’s not much choice… There’s a old Frog model in 1/72… Must be pretty basic too.

I have that kit. Detail is minimal but, the kit has possibilities. I haven’t touched it
yet because I haven’t figured out a way to replicate the “engine turned” cowl.
Ray

the 1/48 scale one is the one I’m looking at.
Thanks to you all.

Is the Glencoe kitr the same as the old Lindberg kit? Also, Hawk had a nice little 1/72 (I think) kit which, I believe Testors reissued.

Shoot it! Maybe someone makes a vac formed kit, its gotta be better than glencoe.

I also have that kit, but it’s been stashed away since I bought it. It’s still in the cellophone wrapper. I’ll dig it out and look at it for you if you want, but I won’t be home for a couple of days. let me know if you want a ‘box opening’ review of it. You have me interested in building it now! [:)]

Ray - I remember as a kid (back in the '60’s) seeing an article in Model Airplane News about the engine turned look. The guy took a pencil and chucked the eraser end in a drill and applied it to an aluminum cowl for a bigger size flying model. the results looked great. Maybe you could sand down an eraser to a smaller diameter appropriate for your scale and do the same on a buffable metallic paint. Would take a lot of patience though (and a steady hand). Anyway just a thought.
