Just finised this one. OOB with a little detail in the pit to look a little better than stock. Can’t see it well through the thick glass though. I’ll post more of it when I resize them. This build it dedicated to the Marines I had assigned to me on my last deployment to Iraq in 2005. This plane was assigned to the Virgin Islands in '39 if I remember the instructions correctly.
Thanks guys, I will be adding more pictures. Light was bad with no sun.
DesertRat, I’m not a Marine, I’m Army, but when I was down range, we had a company of Marines come ashore for a ground rotation so they blended into our joint Army/Air Force security force. I had a full QRF crew comprising one Army soldier, an airman on the gun, and two Marines as my dismount. FOB security in southern Iraq so we were never tested before they went back to their ship. We had a good time on our patrols though.
On a recent trip to EAA’s AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh we photographed theirs for a future walk around series on the Duck. Also two years ago there was a very nicely restored Duck on display during the air show.
Great work (as far I can see) but I would like to see some more pics too…
I like the paint job you done, and cool subjet too, I always liked this bird.
Was dificult to build? do you add more interior details? I would like to build one, first I thought in the Classic airframes kit, but here in my country it´s hard to find, so i´m wondering if the glencoe will be a good buy…
This is my 1/72 Octopus´s kit, I finish it in the colours of the argentinean navy, and I want to do the same with the 1/48 kit…
Well congratulationes on your duck, sure looks great!
Builds like these are proof that, with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, one CAN turn a sows ear into a silk purse. Most of those old mold Glencoe releases are less than state of the art to put it mildly.
Same-same… Gawd, I wish I had that kit again, now that I have a vacuform… Chris, If you’re interested, I’d be happy to vac a better canopy for ya… PM me if ya want…
I got interested in that bird WAY back when, around 1970, I read a short story called, Flight of the Old Duck… Seems that a couple of downed WW2 Naval Aviators and some natives were able to rescue a sunken Duck and get it back into the air…
Interesting that you mentioned raising a Duck, as there was one sunk at Cavite Naval Base in the Philippines. One of the AAF fighter squadrons raised and repaired it, and then used it to ferry food into Bataan until the surrender. It was known as the Candy Clipper.
