After a long break looking to get back into the hobby. Just retired with enough money to do nothing. Haven’t put a model together since the late '70’s. Hopefully not much has changed.
Welcome aboard and back to the hobby. But i would not get those hopes up to much. You may find a hell of a lot has changed, but you will have a lot of fun finding that out for yourself.
Welcome to the forums! [B] [snWcm]
Ha, yeah, a lot has changed in plastic modeling since the late seventies. About the only thing that hasn’t is it’s still called plastic modeling!
Looking forward to seeing your builds!

Welcome aboard The. The Hobbyist. Mr. Hobbyist??? [:|]
Welcome aboard!! Has much changed??
Man has it ever!!! Enjoy is all I’ve gotta say…
I was out of the hobby from 1999 to 2014 and much changed in that time. You’re in for a surprise.
Apart from the prices, you may be surprised the most by the concept of aftermarket items. That’s what surprised me the most, when I got back into scale modeling about 16 years ago or so. For things that we scratchbuilt (or tried to scratchbuild) when I was kid, now we could look and find some vendor who provided the item, for instance, resin cockpit detail sets, or photo-etch rails for ship models. And after that, the next thing that surprised me was the disappearance of figures from many kits, where before, nearly every maker included a figure or two in his kits.
Both of those development made sense, though. Aftermarket accessories fill a demand in the market from guys who want to improve the detail of their kits out of the box, but don’t want to spend the time, or don’t have sufficient skill, to make the details themselves, generally speaking. And figures disappeared, I’m told, because more modelers didn’t want to try painting them, so, again, the aftermarket makers covered that need.
Of course, another big difference is the Internet, allowing us to communicate with our friends in the hobby, around the world, at any time, compared to the means we used back then, such as meetings and newsletters. But that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone getting back in to the hobby today, or getting in for the first time, since the Internet is such a part of most people’s lives already.
Anyway, welcome back to the hobby, and I look forward to seeing your builds!
Best regards,
Brad
