German Zimmerit. Which to Apply

Being new to this type of modeling, I haven’t seriously accomplished any modeling for almost 40 years, I need to ask for some help.

How do you determine which type of Zimmerit do you apply. Some of the books I have show a diamond pattern, others show both a waffle, or a row of vertical lines. I guess it is where the armor was manafactured. I have found zimmerit applicators that look like toothed wheels and have seen this type of application on German armor. I haven’t found a waffle pattern on any of the sites that I have visited.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Jim

Jim: You’re basically on track. Certain factories had specific patterns it seems. The “waffle” pattern were seen on MIAG manufactured Sturmgeshutzen. The diamond pattern were seen on many Panther As. The horizontal ridges were the most commonplace.

Here’s a handy article

Roy,

Thanks for the help. It is gratly appreicated. I will continue the reserach with the help of the link htat you sent.

Again Thanks,

Jim

Roy,

The Alkett StuGs were the only ones with the waffle pattern applied IIRC. MIAG StuGs received zimmerit as well but they had the more conventional ridged type pattern. DML made a small error for example with the recent waffle-zimmed StuH 42 release in that it had an Alkett waffle pattern but MIAG-style fender supports. [;)]

Your basic point is still valid though, the type of zim depended on the factory and the vehicle…unless of course it was field-applied. [8-] [(-D]
