german sub VIIC, colors and propelers

I just made a conversion on an old motorized Revell U-Boot VIIC to de- motorize it and make it look real (added the whole propulsion and steering section), but the propeller (it has only one) of the model are just too big and made of some sort of resin and are imposible to work with (they don’t even accept paint, plus I need one more…

Any suggestions to make them? I don’t use resin casting or any of those “special” methods, usually when I have to make a piece, I “sculpt” it from the materials I have at hand.

I need to know what colors used the kriegsmarine on the “wolves”, specially the shade of gray on top of the hull.

thanks in advanced…

When I need to make propellers I first turn the hub on a lathe, from a piece of brass or aluminum rod. If you don’t have a lathe you can chuck the stock in a fixed drill and shape it with a file.
Then I cut each blade from sheet metal, bend them carefully to the right pitch, and solder (brass) or glue (aluminum) them to the hub.
Then you can use whatever sculpting material you have to faire the blades to the hub.
Good luck!
