German Sherman with "field applied" Zimm WIP

This sort of became a spin off of the Tiger I build in the Winter Warriors GB, due to my first attempt at Zimm. A small tutorial was asked for to help any new modelers, (still working on putting that together) but the subject of the tutorial became a spare Sherman hull I had. It sort of “snowballed” from there.

So here’s a short WIP pic of the Sherman, now wearing the beginnings of a Zimm job and an initial version Tiger I commanders cupola. Purely a hypothetical build, but starting to look interesting.

Any input is appreciated, let 'er rip, LOL It’s for the fun of it. [:D]

Uh oh, Hold on to your seats [X-)] here it comes.

lol anyways, neat idea, I like it. Looks great so far.

Chris,

Actually, Skorzeney’s commandos during operation “Greif” during the battle of the Bulge used these exact type of captured and modified Sherms…

Brilliantly cooooool!

An “A+” for "creativity!

Can’t wait to see it built up! [:P] [:D]

And people say military modelers have no imagination. Are you going to go all out with one of those wild german camo schemes?

MR,

With all the “what if” and paper panzers that have come out recently, I’m actually kind of surprised there hasn’t been a Battle of the Bulge Panther in M10’s clothing kitted.

Thanks guys, it’s sorta taking on a life of it’s own as it develop’s too. Just like the Tiger cupola that was a perfect fit without any mods, although I did add a trim ring at the base to elevate it a bit more.

Manstein, did Skorzeney’s commandos put any zimm on the turret that you know of? I’ve been debating whether or not to go up that far. Front and rear application are a must yet, just not sure about the turret.

Trying to run both builds at the same time again Doog, Nothing like working fine details on one and kit bashing another to get the confusion going, lol. What do you think about adding a Tiger, or Panzer style storage bin on the back of the turret? One of the squared off ones unless I can get the tapered one to cut down right and work.

Aaronw, absolutely… A three tone ambush camo job is slated for this Sherman. Figured that would take it that little “next step” and remove all doubt as to it’s new owners.

Thanks again for the input and comments guys, more zimm work tonight. The angled and curved front hull plate is first up, which ought to be interesting to say the least. [:-^]

Shoot, there’s been one in DML’s catalog for years. [:P]

along w/that 252 ammo transporter w/trailer that I want for my stug b

This will quite interesting. Zim looks excellent so far.

Well as they say out of the mouths of fools. [:I]

I may track that kit down, it falls into my “different” catagory which is what I tend to build.

Thanks Tigerman, sorry to hear about your internet connection. Gotta be wearing mighty thin on your nerves by now.

The Zimm application is done, I think. With the height of these Shermans, and so much distance between the sides and the turret, I don’t figure there would be zimm needed on the turret… Besides, I might have a different idea in mind, not sure yet.

Anyway, here it is. One bonafide field applied Zimm package.

Hope you like.

Dale

Very cool. I’d do the turret to finish the look. Big Red and White vechile numbers on the side.

Ahhhh, that’s looking great! [:D]

Certainly don’t see THAT every day. [;)]

Can’t wait to see this finished!
