German Parasite- Me 328 (pics)

This is my first model finished in a while, an Me 328. It’s 1/72, and it’s actually a small part of a larger project, that being my Ju 290Z.

The paint scheme is a RLM 70/71 splinter (you can’t really tell) with RLM 65 oversprayed in a “wave mirror” pattern. The 65 is a little sloppier than I’d like, but I’m still learning how to use my airbrush. The undersides are a flat black. It was used as a night anti-shipping scheme on a few He 111 V-1 carriers. I liked it, so I used it for this. (The Ju 290Z, when finished, will use the same scheme.)

The Me 328 was a parasite aircraft developed around 1942-43. A few gliders were built, the eventual intention being to power it using two Argus pulsejets. (The same used on the V-1) Stresses on the airframe were too great, though, with several breaking apart in mid-flight. Several attempts were made to rectify the situation, but nothing came of it by the end of the War.

This model was built using the PM kit, with several scratchbuilt details to convert it to the pulsejet powered A version. The most noticeable are the two pulsejets, but a small tailwheel, and armament were also added, using a spare wheel from a 1/144 B-29 nosewheel and paper clips, respectively. Decals are kit decals only for the simple fact I don’t have any replacements, and can’t afford aftermarket ones.

As I said, this is my first completed model for a long time, and just the beginning of a larger work. I hope you like it.

Looking good Mike [tup] That little bird is going to look nice on top of your monster.

Very nice Mike, can’t wait to see’m hooked up.

Man I know this project is taking you some time but that little fighter says its going to something amazing when you’re done. That thing looks great all by itself.

Looks great!!

Very nice work Mike. The completed project should be awesome.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. This sucker was a little bit of a pain for a first airbrush project. It’s only about 4.5-5 inches long! Just as a reference, the two pulsejets are made from drinking straws.

The larger half of this project is still progressing, albeit slowly. The fuselages just need to be masked, primed, painted, and decaled, while the wing still needs to be closed up. I’m waiting for some solder to wire the motors, and a new prop shaft, cooling fan, and spinner from Revell Germany. Don’t know how long that’ll take, though… [B)]

Looks awesome Lucien… gonna be an great show stopper when done.
