I’m looking for information on a paint color used by the Germans on their fire apparatus…The specification sheet I have for a GLG (Grosses Loeschgruppenfahrzeug) built in 1941 requires the body to be painted “dunkelgruen, glaezend, Farbton 30”. Then he gives what appears to be the reference code: RAL 840 B 2. I know he wants “dark green, gloss finish, paint shade 30”…but what is “Paint Shade 30”? I’ve been all over the Internet with no luck - lotsa Farbton 30s on German websites but not what I’m looking for. Anybody got any ideas?
While we treadheads certainly play with things like “dunkelgruen” and RAL numbers, we generally don’t don’t have anything to do with gloss finishes. I’m not going to be of any help with “paint shade 30” terminology either…never heard of it. Is this a civilian firetruck? You might try the automotive forum, but I have my doubts about using RAL numbers on those guys!
A Google of “RAL 840 B 2” gave me this site;

Looks like German firetrucks, so it must be there somewhere…although I didn’t see it listed.
It’s on the very last pic at the bottom of the page. http://lkw-infos.net/images/themengalerien/veranstaltungen/fw-hagen-2004/teil-1/Magirus-S-3000-SLG-050904-4.jpg
The closest I can find to “paint shade 30” is in the current **RAL 840 HR (**classical color) system [Mint Green 6029](http://www.colorplas.com/colour_large_print.asp?ID=156§iontitle=Polyester Pigments&subsectiontitle=RAL 840 HR Colours)
