German Destroyer comparisons...

You might try editing the post where you quoted him too.

Now about those German destroyer camo schemes…???

Splinter camo…

Splinter camo for DKM Destroyers and freighters…???

So many comments on this thread, 13 pages, and I wonder why. It doesn’t matter much, I’ll end up buying both too. I’ve got Dragon’s and will get Trumpeter’s later on. In brief, I may conclude that Dragon’s better because it provides more PE parts.

Manny… are you debating yourself now?? [whstl]

Yeah, and having my head handed to me…

…having your thread handed to you maybe!

Chuckle…

I just received my Dragon Cyber Hobby Upgrade Set for my Dragon Destroyer—sweet…includes PE that rounds out the rest of the railings and a few other fiddly-bits…

Greetings fellow modelers! I’ve done a build review which should be up in a few days over at Modelwarships.com. Until then here’s a little teaser:

Trumpeter’s kit:

Dragon’s kit:

I used generic railing sets on both builds as well as some scratch bits of P/E to finish 'em up. This is my first review and hopefully not my last. Oh Manstein - Please post pics of your build!

Mark

The lighting and angle for the Dragon kit is more flattering…

Mark, it is hard to wait. Next time, wait to post until your build review is up. Would you, please.

Is this meant to be a joke?

I would like to see a comparo of the $10 Heller 1/400 kit fitted with the PE rails, AA weapons set, and portholes/hatches which is about $20 in PE and compare that to these $50 Z DDs.

I suspect the Heller will appear nicer with much less invested.

Squint your eyes and you’ll fall for it. I’ve got the Dragon Z31 kit and the detail fidelity on the weapons alone is more than any PE set could hope to rescue. Yes, it will drive people who don’t like tiny parts to tears, and for them I’m sure the Heller kit is fine. “Nicer ,” though, is only true if cost is your primary determination of what nice is.

I have both the Trump and the Dragon kit, as is my usual practice of buying from both, and like each of them for their own reasons…I noticed that each company is now boxing the other’s initial offering: Trump the earlier war fit and Dragon the '44 fit…

A couple of shots of my Z-31 in progress. This is about two evenings’ work.

One thing to comment on with regard to the instructions; Dragon has you mount the torpedo launcher before the forward stack; as you can see from these photos, the vent that S’s down from the rear face if it will be blocked by the forward portion of the tubes if so. As usual, it’s more of a parts placement guide than step-by-step instructions, but it’s not hard to figure out. So far, I’ve only found one set of reversed numbers in the instructions guide (very first AA gun, “C” on step one. Pieces H5 and H7 I think.
