German Anoraks

Hi there,

Does anyone know where I could find some reference pics of German Grenadier Anoraks? I’m about to start painting Dragon’s German Panzer Grenadiers (Kharkov 1943), but I’m not convinced by the boxart colours. I’ve tried typing into Google “German” “anoraks” and a variety of other combinations, but it yields no results.

Thanks if anyone does have some pics

I tends to paint mine in what I call a “mouse grey” or field-grey:

Kharkov is my fav subject and I am working on two dios of that battle right now, one of which is currently in the dios Forum…

In this one, you can see the variation in colors of them…my refs say that they varied widely in color, from different shades of greys to grey-greens…

cheers for the pics. i’ve seen your Kharkov dio on the Diorama section and well [bow]

what is this colour used (the beige colour)?

also, the trousers, would they be winter reversable as with the M44 SS trousers?

I can’t confirm that light beige color on the plate…usually the back plate is of lighter colors than the front box-art with DML, which tends to be more accurate, IMO…I tend to feel, based on my refs, that the colors were more greyish and grey-greenish than beige…I do know that there was variations in the colors and of the fur used in lining them, buit this beige color, IMO, is inaccurate…Look at the two guys posing in the doorway of my dio WIP—that is about as wide as I feel the variations were…as far as the trousers: my refs show standard field-grey trousers as well as reversible mouse grey/white trousers used…thanks for the compliments on the dio…

Thanks for your help. I suppose they never standardized the uniforms (part of the rush to get winter gear before and after Stalingrad?). Think i will stick to a variation of grey-greens then, and maybe do some of the trousers in white to add some variation, as I hope to do two vignettes with figures from that kit.

I’ve seen your latest dio progress, how is the second dio going (last image in your post)? tbh looks brilliant already

The parkas were unique to the SS in the winter of 42-43 and manufactured exclusively for them at concentration camp workshops, so there was ample room for color variations, but only to the extent of field-grey and mouse-grey variations—based on my refs. Again, the fur-lining could be seen in white, brown and black (and even mixed).

The dio with the T-34 and building facade is awaiting me to finish weathering the tank and put down the last of the snow/ice/mud groundwork and settle on final figure placement. For some reason I can’t seem to push through the last 5% and finish it. If you are a student of the battle you can probably identify at least 4 major personalities that actually fought in the battle…

The dio I am actually working on now (active in dio thread) will involve the DML Mk IVG in whitewash and all of the figs posted in the thread, along w/ the russian MG, etc…

Thanks for asking!

Manny they are some fine looking figures in that last photo, infact all of it looks pretty good i must have missed that post.

Try here, not sure if it’ll have what you’re looking for or not, but worth a try at least: www.Feldgrau.net.
