German 88

Fellows,

Just getting back into the hobby after too many years and my first model will be a sub, but the secind I want to do an artillery piece.

Is there a German 88 artillery model available?

Thanks

Tamiya still makes, or at least is still aviable an 88. It’s an older kit but with some improvements like a aluminum barrel, photetched parts kit it can build up into a really fine replica. Or you can just build it out of the box and it would be just as good.

Ya! your in luck, Tamyia still makes 88 guns and they come with a choice of tank killer or aircraft killer. Take your pick. =)

Thanks…I best buy it now for future building…

Using research and checking around, you may be able to find resources to make several kinds of 88, e.g. Flak 18, Flak 36, and a couple of Pak numbers. Carriages, sights and barrels vary. Also, the Flak guns used in the anti-tank role were sometimes modified by their crews, adding splintershields, removing anti-aircraft sights, and camouflaging to make them better adapted to their secondary role.

Most agree the Tamaya 88 is the one to get. The kit is versatile and can be built in numerious poses for dioramas or it can be mounted on several chasis such as the PZkw IV.

88mm calibre German weapons in 1/35 abound. However, let me correct some of the info on posts to your original question. The Tamiya kit represents a Flak 36 or Flak 37. BOTH of these were dual use guns (unlike what the instructions say). Both had capacities for anti-aircraft and ground targets (anti-tank or artillery). It is wrong to say that the Flak 36 was used for AA and the Flak 37 was used for AT. As already stated, this kit is pretty commonly available for about the $25 range.

All other 88mm artillery pieces are in the aftermaket range:
ADV/Azimut: Pak 43 8.8cm AT gun
Verlinden: Pak 43 8.8cm AT gun, Pak 43/41 AT gun
Gunze Sangyo: Pak 43/41 AT Gun
Precision Models: Pak 43/41 AT Gun
Cromwell Models: Flak 41 88mm AA gun
(forget the company) Flak 18 88mm AA gun

** both the Flak 41 and Flak 18 could be used in the ground role like the Flak 36 and Flak 37***

Also, the Flak 36/37 was NEVER mounted to a Pz IV chassis. There were some mounted to ferries, fixed emplacements, to railroad cars, to a few FAMO heavy tractors and to a special heavy tank chassis but not a Pz IV.

If you like 1/72 scale Hasegawa has two 88s, the one I liked was kit #31138. Nice kit for ten bucks

Dragon make the Flak 36 and soon a Flak 37 and AFV club do a Flak 18

9 posts in 2 1/2 years for that guy. I’d say he’s gone.
