German 1940 Tank Crew Colors

Hello Fine Scale Modeler Friends! Currently I’m building the old Tamiya 1/35 Panzer IVD kit and I’m wondering what you would recommend for Vallejo Acrylic colors for the 1940 crew members. The instructions recommend matt black for the beret, the trousers, the boots, the tie and belt, which seems kind of boring to me. At least the inner shirt is light grey! :slightly_smiling_face:
Thanks again for the help!

Thank you guys for those recommendations and nice color photos. Those photos give some better inspiration to see the details of the uniform and the subtle differences in the shades. I just got back into modeling about 3 years ago. I started when I was 8 years old and quit in high school when girls replaced the plastic. I bet that is a common story! I’m on a journey of re-learning and also just learning how to skill up. Trust me I wasn’t very good at it as a kid and I have a lot to learn now. I’m in a process of learning how to chip the paint on the tank and now how to see the different shades of colors to create more realism and interest.

I found it helpful to look into uniform decals sheets, unless your good at painting those little insignia,I know I’m not.

Looking at the photos makes me realize that it must have really sucked to wear a tie in a tank in combat! I don’t know about everyone else but I’ve always hated wearing ties.

Looking into the decal sheets, I came across photo etch parts of uniform metals, belt buckles and shoulder badges. I’ve never seen these before. I get how they can make the item pop out better than the plastic molded figures ever could. I assume you have to remove the original molded part and then glue on the photo etch part? Then do you use decals over the top of these instead of painting them? I imagine this is extremely challenging to do if the figure is in a combat pose verses just standing upright?

I never dealt with them,I have just used water slide decals over the raised details
