George is done...Stuka is not...

Hello all,

I kind of shifted gears this week and decided to finish up my Tamiya Kawanishi George in 1/72 and then get back to the Stuka D-1 project. The Stuka’s belly has been painted and masked…it now awaits top colors.
The George came out nicely but had a lot of ejector pin marks in really aggrevating places. In the end I was pleased with the overall look of the model.
I built it OOB adding only seat belts, radio wire and hollowed out gun barrels. The decals are from the kit. The top color is actually Aeromaster Kawanishi Green though it looks quite a bit lighter in the photos. The belly is Alclad II and the control surfaces are Aeromaster Mitsubishi Navy Gray.

Hope you like it!

Happy Modeling!

Sweet George Joe!!! love the paint chipping!! nicely done friend. later.

Joe you did a good job on that George. That lighter color gives it a good sun fade.Digger

That looks very nice. The finish of th paint looks very smooth, and the NMF underside looks great. Thanks for sharing.

Hey guys…thanks for all the comments…I’ll post some pics next week of the Stuka progress. Keep your photos coming as well!

Joe

…Enjoyed the large pics of your Tamiya Kawanishi George. Very nice & clean build.
Will look forward to the pics of your finished Stuka D-1 project, Bill.

Gorgeous George! Very nice work. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Nice work. Looks Good.

Nice George, Joe ! I like the wavy wrap around camo on the wings & fuselage.

The George is a really unique plane. I believe it’s the only time that a float plane design was adapted for wheels, rather than the other way around.
Well done ! Still looking forward to the Stuka !

Great job …Joe
Will BE looking for the other one

joe great work. very impressive.

Thanks much for the comments guys! I’m glad you liked “George”. The camo is hard edged on the cowling and under the wing leading edge but soft edged on the fuselage sides. Its hard to tell in the photo because it is very subtle. I made a mask template from paper and taped it about an eighth of an inch from the surface using tamiya tape rolled to proper thickness. The final result is a thin soft edge that an airbrush alone can’t do in this scale. I was very pleased with this technique and will use it again for future projects.

Happy modeling all!

Joe
