G'Day from Down Under

G’Day All
My name is Dave and I reside in Sydney, Australia
My main interest in modelling revolves around flying RC scale models

My current project is a 1/7 th scale Sopwith Pup which is nearing completion - if only I can get that Le-Rhone to spin - hmm

Previous projects include 1/7th scale Spitfire (which did spin - straight into the ground - tears all round) and a 1/8th scale Hawker Hurricane
Cheers

Welcome Dave…

I hope you can get vital information for your planes on here. My dad is an avid flyer and builds mostly scratchbuilds. I am presently helping him with a “Tony” with a 60" span, as well as an Me 262 with a 48" span. He just crashed his piper cub…it was a pretty plane!

Regards, Dan

Welcome to FSM Dave…most of us here have learned that if we just set our models on the shelf…they don’t spin into the ground. LOL Hope you enjoy the forums here.

Welcome Dave,
I once had the privilege of visiting your city. On arrival at the airport I was picked up by a colleague who took me down to the harbor. We walked into a little bar and he ordered us up a couple of Thunder Ale’s. I’d been on a plane for the last 18 hours or something crazy like that but decided to be polite and have a drink with my new friend. It turned out this stuff was someting like 13% by volume and I’m drinking two pints of this stuff. I was totally ambushed my first day. But I got my revenge when I blew chunks all over his brand new car. [xx(]

I love Australia and hope to go back there someday with my wife. I’ll pass on the Thunder Ale though mate. [:D]

I’ve given some thought to doing R/C aircraft. If I were to do it I think I would go the same route as you and do WWI era aircraft. Probably a Jenny JN-4D or something. We’ll have to see.

Take care and welcome to the group!
Dave

Hi ya Dave …

Welcome to our little modeling group … hope you can spend some time with us … read alot, post alot and share your views with the rest of us. I feel certain you will find us to be a very diverse and warm bunch of “nuts”.

Again welcome to the FSM community modeling forum(s).

Welcome to FSM, Dave. Hope you’ll find the site useful and hope you’ll share what you’ve learned with us. Enjoy the forums. - Ed

Hi there DRansom,

And welcome to the community. I too love R/C aircraft but never flew anything beyond the high wing trainer. Glad to hear that you’ve flown hurri’s and spitfires… Once I start earning my salary I should be able to continue with another great hobby… Enjoy your stay here!! The guys at the forum are very helpful and will promptly answer any queries.

Cheers,
Nandakumar

Thanks guys for the warm welcome.

The Sopwith Pup has now flown its maiden flight (interestingly enough it was at the RAAF base in Richmond - in between Hercules C130’s taking off for “destinations unknown” - yeah right). I will now finish the paint scheme. Have chosen Lt. Oxspring’s mount of No. 54 Squadron RFC who is the daddy of Bobby Oxspring who flew Spitfires in WW2 and whoes book “Spitfire Command” I have recently read. The aircraft ended up in German hands after being brought down intack by a pilot of Jasta 5. Tally Ho
