GB Plans for 2005...

I’d like to “Shuffle Off to Buffalo.” I’d be a bit ahead of the game with my P-39Q, as the cockpit is nearly complete (been workin’ on it all day). But I do have a 1/48 MPM P-63A kit that I could do. It’s not an easy kit (I’ve done their P-63C), but I could definately get into it.

Okay, it’s ‘Built in Buffalo’ then. The main emphasis will be on the P-40 and P-39, but you can do any aircraft which was built in Buffalo…

Someone else mentioned a ‘Nose Art’ theme in another thread, and I think I remember someone suggesting that a while back; was it gregers with ‘Tail Art’? Can’t remember exactly…

Anyhoo, here’s the definite list of GB’s I’m going to MC in 2005:

Built in Buffalo - Curtiss P-40 & Bell P-39 (or any other Buffalo-built bird)

Start: January 2005 End: May 2005

Barbarossa (Formerly OSTFRONT) - This is a multi-subject GB and will be done in cahoots with target armor types as well as figure dudes, so play nice kids…

YEAH RIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!

Start: June 22nd, 2005 End: December 3rd, 2005

MiG Alley - Any aircraft (UN or Communist) which scored an aerial victory during the Korean War.

Start: June 27th, 2005 End: July 27th, 2005

Battle of Britain - If it took part in the Battle over East Anglia Southeastern England, then it’s eligible.

Spitfire Beer; downed all over Kent, just like the Luftwaffe…

Start: July 10th, 2005 End: October 31st, 2005

Operation Bodenplatte - Any aircraft that blew stuff up or got blown up in France, Belgium and Holland on January 1st, 1945…

Start: November 1st, 2005 End: January 1st, 2006

Fade to Black…

Sounds good Steve… I’ll be getting in on a few of those for sure.

You can put me down for the MiG Alley one and the BIB GB. I have a Monogram F-80, Tamiya MiG 15, Monogram F-84 and a Bell P-39. Would a Jet Ranger or Huey count? Some of the components for these were built at Bell-Buffalo. There are a lot of A/C that were built in that part of NY, Isn’t Farmingdale there somewhere? Sorry but I’m not real familiar with yankee land.

How about a B-52 build? Or Cold War?

Kevin and Glen S, Farmingdale is on the other end of the state, as is Bethpage. So, no, Grumman or Republic aircraft would not be eligible for the ‘Built in Buffalo’ build.

ALTHOUGH, Curtiss did build P-47’s under license in Buffalo. The designation was P-47G, and there weren’t many built, but that particular variant of the P-47 would be eligible. The main emphasis is on the P-40 and P-39 and, as to major manufactures, this would be primarily a Curtiss, Bell and Consolidated show. There’s others, but those are the main players.

I haven’t decided if things like the Huey and such will be eligible because, although they included components which were made here in the Buff, the aircraft were assembled in… Texas I think?

I think that Roadkill mentioned the B-52 in his GB thread, and as far as any other GB’s, ‘Cold War’ or some of the others mentioned awhile back like vacuforms, ‘X-Planes’ and all, they’re all very interesting ideas and I might participate in some of them, such as Roadkill’s proposed ‘trainers’ GB or if Pix wants to do a ‘captured’ GB, I’m fersher in that one.

But I’ve committed to MC’ing the five which I’ve mentioned in that last post and will do only those five and any others which I may think of and which interest me personally. So if you guys wanna start a GB of your own, feel free. The more the merrier, although too many of these things can lead to burnout… [xx(] [;)]

Fade to Black…

I’ll be there for the Built in Buffalo, Battle of Britain & Mig Alley builds. Sounds like fun.

Regards, Rick

Really enjoyed that Y29 story Steve-O. Thanks for the link. I think doing one of the P-51s involved would be great. If and when I have the time… choices, choices![sigh][8D]

Hey Krax, no prob! That’s quite a story, isn’t it? Too bad for the Allies that that was something of an isolated incident…

Now that I’ve got the GB subjects nailed down, I’m gonna start working on some of the current projects I have going. Will also work out the scheduling for these as well as running through references; hopefully I’ll be able to have the majority of the reference material available before each build begins instead of trickling it in while the build’s in progress.

Anyhoo, in the meantime, if this thread dies I’ll try and bump it to serve as a reminder…

Fade to Black…

Okay, I’ve edited the original post above, but will repeat this here for convenience…

Here’s the revised list of Group Builds which I’ll be MC’ing in 2005. As you can see, I’ve changed ‘OSTFRONT’ to ‘Barbarossa’. I’ve also nailed down the start and end dates for all of these and, in the case of the historical builds such as ‘Battle of Britain’, these will reflect, in one way or another, those of the actual events/battles/campaigns.

Most of these GB’s allow the participants a few months to complete their model(s), except the ‘MiG Alley’ build. The dates are still tentative on that one, but as of this moment they reflect the actual dates of the first and last aerial victories of the Korean War. I’ll need some feedback on that and would like to figure out a way to extend the build time without having it go a full year… [:p]
