I was planning on painting a KC-135 this weekend. I had to fill some gaps when I attached the engines. For this I used a thick gel CA. Anyway, I thought 24 hours would be plenty of cure time but when I went to clean it up with a sanding stick I found it was still a little gel-like.
Should I invest in some accelerator, or just put this one off till 2011?
I always thought accelerator was one of those expensive luxuries that wasn’t really necessary. … until I tried some. Man, that stuff works. You apply glue the gap (or part) touch it with a drop of accelerator and it’s solid. Ready to sand immediately.
Though, it is curious that your CA hadn’t dried in 24hrs. That’s not normal as far as my experience. Maybe your batch is bad?
It is 3 or 4 months old. I am thinking the bottle is due for retirement.
Just make sure there`s no glue on your fingers when using accelerator…chemical burns hurt really bad[:'(]

I use Zip Kicker…picked up a 2 oz. spray bottle at $6.99 and later, an 8 oz. refill bottle for $11.49. I buy alot of my supplies from a collectibles store that has a medium sized model section…his prices are high so maybe itll be cheaper at your LHS or try finding it on line....good stuff. Im stuck going there `cause the nearest "real " hobby shop is 50 miles away.
After putting the super glue on throw a little baby powder on it. Sets the glue much faster and gives you a lot more time to sand it down. I know it sounds crazy but it works. I found this out on this sight 4 or 5 years ago and it works. Granted I don’t use the thick stuff but it works for the thin stuff. You can sand it in about a minute.
Is there really any difference between the various brands of accelerator? Looking around, I see the prices vary quite a bit.
