ok im seriously thinking about getting some loft two towers game guys, the starter, but since the paints for my other models bog me down, how much are the paints for this and how many do you generally need? i guess i already can use some of my tamiyas, but i know most are specific colors. any help is welcomed. also, anyone know about vietnam and WWII games, id like to hear about them.
Hmm…paints… [:)]
The thing is, you could use other brands besides the GW/Citadel paints, but whenever you see references to colors, it’s always going to be using the GW/Citadel name. For example, the browns are: Leprous Brown, Bubonic Brown, Bestial Brown, Vermin Brown, Vomit Brown, Snakebite Leather and Scorched Brown. Now how and which colors are the equivalent in Tamiya or other brands, you got me. That’s the disadvantage of not using their paints.
I think the paints normally retail for $2.25 or $2.50 (USD) at the local hobby store. There’s one store online that carries them for $1.59 - Action Village - WarhammerGear. If you look at their Lord of the Rings page, you’ll see two paint sets - one for the Fellowship and one for the Uruk Hai. While they’re decent - I wouldn’t buy them just for the paint - the little tubs are little - and as for the “painting guide”, there’s a great deal of information in the Two Towers manual.
Here’s a review I have found regarding the Two Towers Game:
Product Review: Lord of the Rings: Two Towers Boxed Game
As for retailers (with below retail prices), I’ve seen some references to Action Village’s WarhammerGear.com store for GW / LotR stuff and also the WargamesWorkshop.com - Lord of the Rings.
I have never purchased anything from either websites - I just recently found them. So I can’t give you any feedback based upon personal experience.
It’s fairly easy to find equivilancy charts on the web. Feel free to continue using your preferred brand of paint.
Besides, you’ll want to buy the DVD and use that as your colour reference. The references in WD are usually based on not mixing colours.
