G4m-1 Betty Bomber references??? Another Stumper??!!

Hi All,

Been googling like a madman but cant find anything , picture wise, for the interior and cockpit of this aircraft. Im building the Tamiya, 1:48 kit for the “Way too many props” GB and want to get started…didnt think Id have so much trouble finding reference photos for the “Betty”! Any help would be greatly apprecated!

Been there/ done that…lol. Thanks anyway Tom! Gotta be something out there but Im really starting to believe there isnt…for the pit and interior that is.

What exactly are your questions regarding the pit? Wingnut built a very nice one a while back----he may have some refs…

Just looking for some clear pics of the real thing so I know what was actually there and what it looked like. Ive checked out other builds thru Google and the one reference I keep seeing being mentioned is some Monogram book...Jap cockpits part 16 (something like that)...retails around $70. I want to do a good job but Im not spending 70 bucks on a reference book.

I found two articles on FSM…Carlos Maris January 08 build and the other was in “Adding Detail”…a pamphlet that was in an issue a while back where Bob Zoglio superdetails the same kit. I`ll just have to use these as a guide if nothing else pans out.

I will shoot Wingnut a PM and ask him if he still has any pics…thanks for the heads up Manny!

Thanks,

Len

There isn’t really a great deal out there, only one section of one airplane survives and it is at the NASM. Most photos taken during the war are black and white, so they ain’t worth diddly to us! Essentially, the whole interior of the forward fuselage is a pale green, which seems to be a standard Mitsubishi interior color, so the green used in later model Zeros (mod 52 and later) should be pretty close. I have the Japanese Interior reference, and the cockpit section is pretty monochrome, the instrument panel, the seats, floorboards, canopy framing, the control yokes are all the same color. The very center of the instrument panel has a black rectangle, it houses an attitude gyro and a gyro compass. The seat cushions are a little closer to Olive Drab, but that is about all the contrast there is in the thing! On the throttle quadrant there are six knobs, the left pair appear red, the center pair blue and the right pair black, I figure they are mixture, throttle and prop controls respectively.

Thank you sir! That picture answers a few questions I had. What book is that in?

A Japanese book entitled, “Mechanism of Military Aircraft”…if you need anything else let me know…it is primarily a Frances book but has a lot of Betty stuff in it…

I could use some interior pics…like behind the cockpit stuff if you have anything like that it would be great!

Thanks Manny!
