I was born and raised in “Philly” and never heard of that place…lol. Where is it exactly?

It’s down Route #1 out of “Philly” near Kennett Square and Longwood Gardens. It’s not a large airport but they put on a decent air show and they usually have a car show too on one side of the parking lot.

I was born and raised in “Philly” too. 13th & Tasker.

I grew up in Kensington/ Harrowgate Park…Tioga “El” stop. Used to have a singer in one of my bands from your neighborhood…Greg Lapiteri…he was one of those guys everyone knew…lol.

Well, sorry to say his name doesn’t ring a bell. You have to remember that this was back in the 40s and early 50s and then we moved to SW Philly. 58th and Cedar. Did meet a few of the singers of the day in the late 50s at “Bandstand”. Dick Clark signed my HS Yearbook.

Jim [cptn]

I guess I can’t even write the famous Mr. Clarks first name.

Jim [cptn]

LOL! Just call him Richard. Sounds like youre in my Mothers age group…she and my late Father were on Bandstand a few times too. Mom went to Mastbaum AVTS, and Dad went to West Catholic. My Mother will be 75 this July. Im 45...our "Bandstand" was a show called Dancin on Air…cause it was on TV...and Im proud to say , I`d never be caught dead anywhere near that show…lol.

Len

Len, that’s what most of the guys at West Catholic and every other school used to say about the guys that went there. LOL I went to West Catholic too. Class of '58. Went to Bandstand in '57 and '58. If you do the math, that makes me just about 71 in a couple of months.

Small world huh? My Dad used tell me about a brother that taught there…he was missing a hand…and if you “acted up” in class hed whack you with his stump..lol. Ever meet this guy? Dad dropped out of school...had to work to help the family...he was no dummy by any means. He passed away in 1995, Moms been living with us since 2000, couldn`t think of leaving her in the old neighborhood…really bad now but still miss it sometimes, memories mostly.

Have a great time at the Airshow and try to take some pics…loved to see some!

Ahh, the old neighborhood… Grew up in Fishtown/Kensington myself… How was the airshow today??

Len - There was no brother there without a hand while I was there. There were a few of the brothers who were very good at giving “knuckle sandwiches”. Those were the days when corporal punishment was allowed and used frequently. I remember one brother who had this thing about anyone coming up behind him and touching him. One guy came up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention and landed on the other side of the room. He never did that again. The Dean of Discipline was famous for slugging guys. Could tell stories all night. That’s the way us old coots are.

swingr1121 - Never made it to the airshow. The wife and I were very busy with our business. Have orders that have to be ready to go out early next week. Sooooooo, business before pleasure (or no money for hobbies). On one hand, we’re glad we’re busy, but on the other hand, we’d like a break so we can take a small vacation. Thought we heard some of the acrobatic planes doing their thing as we only live about 10 minutes from the airport, but didn’t see anything. Last year, we saw a couple of them practicing during the week before the show. We’d hear the engines and then see them come up over the top of the trees. Just finished checking the schedule and it doesn’t look good for tomorrow either. I’ll give it a try though.
