Fw190D/Ta-152 "Langnase" Group Build

Ok guys, right now we’ve got 10 people doing a number of different kits. They are

Biscuit3- Dragon 1/72 Ta-152
Blkhawkmatt - Hasegawa 1/32
Cobrahistorian - Trimaster/DML/Italeri 1/48 (five of em!)
Dragan - Hasegawa 1/32
Falcon039 - ProModeler 1/48
Ghettochild - Tamiya 1/48
JoeRugby - Testors 1/48
J.S.Harrison - Tamiya 1/48
Kingthad - Undecided
Pingtang - Undecided
Matrixone - Tamiya 1/48 (with possible Academy 1/72 or Airfix 1/72)
Dragonfly - Trimaster 1/48

I’m making massive amounts of progress on two of my builds. Red 3 and 13 are up on their gear, although the wings haven’t been permanently joined to the fuselages. I’ve opened the gear wells on both and will be putting visible engines in them. It is amazing the difference between the DML and Trimaster kits. For some reason, Trimaster fits perfectly, while the DML kit has some serious gap issues. Very odd.

Sound like your on a building binge Jon Thats “outstanding” mate, can’t wait to see some pics[tup]
as for myself i’m still in the research part of the build, but i did find a set of "Pic As’ decals in the folder so i’ll probably go with those…

You can count me in. I am going to do the Pro Modeller 190 D-11.

Jules,

As far as I know, the “Pik As” of JG53 never flew the D-9. Major Franz Gotz, pilot of “Yellow 10”, the 190D-13 that was brought back to the US was originally with JG53 and did have an ace of spades on his bird, but that’s about it. I may be wrong, but that’s what my research has uncovered.

I’m going to get some pics up later today of my progress.

Cobrahistorian,

I wish to join this GB, I can start building in June after my two current builds are finished and out of the way. My kit(s) will be the Tamiya 1/48 scale kit and/or the Academy 1/72 or Airfix 1/72 scale kit, maybe all three!
I prefer my models built OOB, so no open panels or fancy parts on my Doras. I have been looking for a reason to build one of these Tamiya D-9s, even though they are not perfect, most builds I have seen of the Tamiya kit look very good to me and I want to see what I could do with one of them.

Matrixone

Matrixone, you’re on the list.

Is anyone else doing a Ta-152-tailed bird, or a Ta-152 for that matter?

I’d like to do a Ta-152, but I can’t find a kit. Do you know what kits are available in 1/48 scale? If I can find one, I’ll do one of them instead of a D.

Pingtang,

Trimaster did a Ta-152H-1 in 48th which was later issued by DML and then Italeri. Finding the Trimaster one is VERY difficult, since it is the rarest one and they go for BIG bucks. The DML and Italeri pressings are much easier to come by. There are a few up on ebay right now, although the Italeri one is a bit overpriced.

Hmmm thats a bit of a problem, i wanted to try my hand at a similar camo scheme as yellow 10 but, with a Tamiya D9 on the shelf i can’t justify going out and buying a D13…
I may have to exercise a little artistic licence on this one cause i’m biting at the chaff to have a crack at the extensive mottle job…

I’ve got the first part of my build in place. I got the eduard PE set for the italeri 190D kit. Now all I have to do is pick up the kit I saw at the LHS last weekend. Hope someone hasn’t gone and bought it before me…

Jules,

You may want to look into Eagle Parts. I think they have a conversion kit.

my D-9 is ordered along with the eagle parts cockpit, eduard flaps and interior details sets so hopefully it will be here in the next couple of weeks!!! I think that along with the PE and white metal that comes with the Hasa kit i have plenty of extras to make this an awsome detail job!!! Cant wait!!!

I’ve got a spare Italeri 1/72 Dora if anyone wants to build it. Seems that I forgot how to read and bid on the wrong model. Now I’ve gotta get me another Dora for JV44!

Jon,im going to change my build to a dragon 1/72 ta152 hpe thats ok ?

Biscuit, you’re good to go.

I’ve decided not to do “Black 6” from JG2. I’ve been doing a bit of research into the Doras of KG(j)27 and have found two interesting paint schemes. Both are speculative, but are based on known fact and judging from each of their respective Werknummern, they should have Ta-152 tails. I’ve done some doctoring on “Black 12”'s profile, since it originally had a regular tail and was facing the other way, but after playing around a bit, I think it looks ok. The model will be much better, I promise. I’m thinking about putting these two in a dio eventually, but first I’ve gotta build the JV44 birds. Without further ado, here they are!

I’ve been playing around with a Gb badge for this one and here’s what i have at the moment…

Ok, Please be gentle with me, I’ve never been in a group build before, and not sure how this works, but out of coincidence I’ve recieved the Trimaster kit yesturday.

So…If it’s ok, I’d like to throw my hat in the ring and join this build.

I hope the Fw 190D-9 qualify’s. I haven’t decided on any markings, and not sure this kit needs am parts.

Anyhoo, please cu\ount me in. Sounds like fun.

Dragonfly

Dragonfly,

You’re in! The Trimaster Dora is a fantastic kit. The only real aftermarket part the Trimaster kit needs is a new wheel well and engine plug. The 190D and Ta-152 series had an open wheel well so you could literally look up into the engine bay. That isn’t represented in the Dora kit, so if you want to build a 100% accurate kit you may want to look into that.

That being said, the point of this GB is to have fun, learn from one another and make some impressive airplanes.
Welcome aboard!

Sweet, thanks for letting me tag along. If I may be so bold, who makes the correct parts I need, and can I find them at Great models? I’m still waiting on some out of stock items, and It may not be too late to add some parts for this build.

Dragonfly

I know Aires makes a complete update set that includes the entire engine, gun bay, etc, but that gets kinda pricy. Guys, anyone know? I know there is a resin plug out there, but can’t remember who makes it. Gotta find that out for myself too!
