Accurate Miniatures 1/48 kit, built out of box other than the antenna wire. painted with tamiya paints, weathered with oils.

Did you over coat with semi gloss as there is a bit of sheen, don’t get me wrong as I like this look, possibly after a rain shower. Its a good theme for a display with a mirror (puddle) underneath showing off the underside details.
Dull coat is touchy at the best of times and often changes the tint of paint, whatever you used turned out perfect![Y]

for final coat I make my own “dullcote” using tamya flat base mixed with future and windex to thin it.
I keep the mix so it isn’t totally flat. but my light is right up next to the model for taking pics so there is always some " phantom shine " from it lol

The only question i would ask, is this meant to be Ernst Schröder’s Red 19 from JG 300 or have you just gone for a generic 190.
I especially like the way your washes pick out the bolt/fastener/rivet heads on the cowling.
As to the gloss vs flat debate, has anyone actually seen a WW II airplane in original paint? Was it really flat or something in between? Serious question.

those are his decals, but I was originally making a different plane but I messed up a decal so I I ended up using these instead. so its not a accurate build of his plane i just went for a cool looking 190 lol
You got that right, its deffinatly cool looking. It just got me a bit confused(which is not to difficult) as it has his markings but a yellow tail and cowl and no outer wing guns.
I have read, can’t recall where, that a finish on both armour and aircrfat should be more a semi gloss. Not sure how accurate that is.

Only thing that jumped out at me was with the right aileron in the up position the left should be down.

Rangers Lead The Way

It depends. I’ve been really into the various “WWII in color” videos that are available these days. One thing I’ve noticed (actually been looking for) is that some aircraft have a semi-gloss sheen and some are kinda dull. Marine and Navy aircraft in the South Pacific islands for example seem to have a flat finish. Perhaps it’s the paint durability under that hot tropical sun, perhaps it’s just coral dust from the “quick and dirty” Sea-Bee airstrips getting all over everything. Aircraft based in England and Europe seem to have more of a semi-gloss finish, but then even there some of the older aircraft had some pretty dull paint (again, maybe it’s the difference between those based on concrete runways in England vs dusty dirt strips near the front. I’ve heard of some in the ETO actually waxing their aircraft, but I wouldn’t imagine that many units had a lot of time for that. I guess it all comes down to the particular aircraft you are modeling and the old “check your references”.
