FW-190 Pictures (the real deal!)

Hey guys! A couple weeks ago, I was out flying my little old Cessna 172 (she’s a 1956, the first year!) and I heard someone contact tower using the callsign, “FW-190”. I was blown away, so I finished my landing ( I was on short final at the time) and taxied back to the ramp. I got out, and had the immense pleasure of watching a genuine FW-190 land only a few hundred feet away, and he taxied to the ramp. Once he shut down and got out, the drooling commenced. I managed to get a few good pictures with my phone, and thought I’d share them if anyone would like to drool too, or use them as reference. Enjoy!

O you lucky bugger. Very nice, and i like the paint scheme they have done it in.

Thanks for shareing.

Great pics!!! You’re a lucky dawg!!!

I’ve got a video of it taxiing and taking off (although it’s hard to see that far away). If anyone is interested, I can upload it to youtube.

Wow! That’s not something you see every day! Very cool!

An unexpected warbird is always a treat. Thanks for the pics.

the airport I fly at is a pretty lively little place… I see black hawks, CV-22’s, Chinooks, and even fighter jets on a regular basis… Heck, there’s even a Sky Crane that comes by every once and a while. But a world war two fighter? That’s a REAL treat.

very nice

That’s a true “lucky dog” story! First thing I noticed is that the owner has the stones to display the historically correct but Extremely Politically Incorrect Swastica.

Did you get any info on the restoration?

You’re yanking my chain right? Great photoshop. Assuming this isn’t your model, then that is indeed a real treat. Love the early variants of the FW-190.

Is the aircraft one of the German new production replicas?

yeah, this is the Flug Werk new-build plane. It was at Planes of Fame this past January for a show in Chino. The strange thing here is that it is powered by a Russian radial engine.

Whats really cool is the fact that there is now one original flying FW-190 in the world. It is a combat veteran aircraft, recovered from swampland in Russia. Fighter Rebuilders did the work on the plane, and Steve Hinton test-flew it. It is owned by Paul Allen’s Flying Heritage Collection in Washington, and it is an original FW-190 A5/U3, including the original BMW 801 radial engine. It is the one and only BMW 801 in working condition anywhere in the world that I know of. There is a second group, called “White 1”, that is working on a restoration for a combat veteran FW-190F-8 variant that crash landed in Norway in 1945.

This is an incredible piece of flying history. Too bad the pilot wouldn’t let you take it for a spin!
