Fw 190 Butcher Bird 2013 (extended to June 2014) Group Build

Is that the Tamiya offering Doug?

I actually have a couple of books on that thing and good ones too. I don’t know if I’ll turn one out in 2014 but I may the following year. Cool bird I agree!

Hey Cemens, I get daily notices from ebay if any new items appear for “1/48 Focke Wulf FW 190” and it just so happens this Hasegawa with Hagelkorn appeared. Bidding appears to be currently around $8.50 with $6.80 shipping. Here’s the link.

Joe… Its the Tamiya, with a Verlinden resin upgrade kit,

Oh, also has a Strike Eagle decal set…

Doug: Your “Pfeil” looks awesome! May I ask what brand/scale it is? (I presume 48th?) I want ot build one as well. (How about starting a GB for them?)

Joe (Rix): Thanks for the link. It’s 1/72nd scale though. I don’t build anything smaller than 1/48. (everything else is too small for me…)

So Tamiya 1/48 it is? How is that kit?

Whoops, My bad. That’s what I get for multi tasking.

That Pfiel is very sharp Doug, nice!!

I’ve heard good things about how that kit goes together. I have the trainer version of it. I forget how much AM stuff I have crammed into that box and its been a year or so since I have looked in the box but I do remember having ALOT of stuff for that one! Got three builds to get through to where I’ll see enough light of day to be able to take that one on though.

Good news, Guys!

I got an email from the owner of my LHS:

He just ordered a huge pile of Zoukai Mura kits: He didn’t order any Mustang kits and only one Skyraider though. The Mustang is a no-go for him, because he has several P-51s from Tamiya already, retailing for the same price… The Skyraider is very expensive, so he jsut ordered one of them to see if anyone will buy it. BUT: He did order a whole bunch of Ta-152s!!! I’m so going to buy one of them!

Oh, I just ordered the Hasegawa 190 (with the car) and Tamiya’s A-3…

Clemen;'s

I’m not familiar with Zoukai Mura kits, are they a European company? I am just finishing up a Tamiya A-3 you will like it, very easy to assemble. Just don’t use Walthers solvaset on the decals like I did and end up having to by AM decals to fix what I messed up. [00ps]

John

ZM is some pretty bad A stuff from what I’ve seen. I don’t really build the bigger scale planes but if I did the He-219 would be at the top of the list from them. As far as the Tamiya stuff, theirs is easy most of the time. There are a couple of kits out there that are not that great but they are far and few between. Got any pics of that A-3?

Mustang:

I’ll have to take some pictures tonight and post them tomorrow, to bad they won’t count but I’m almost done with that one.

John

Clemens… Thats a great idea about a Do-335 GB. If memory serves I think only about 27 actually saw any combat before the end but what a cool airplane. Yes its a 1/48 Tamiya with some resin upgrades, And as always, with Tamiya, very few problems, what did pop up was minor and easily over come. The other kits are the venerable old Monogram and the Monogram Pro Modeler. Not a Tamiya but not bad kits at all. If the GB idea takes root , I’m in “fo sho”.

Jester… Thank you sir! most appreciated, I again find myself admiring your paint work! You indeed have a good eye and touch for the detail!

Joe (mustang) after seeing your work on other kits, I cant wait to see what you can do to a Do335…

Joe R , hows the 190 comming along? I’m going to get some silly putty this weekend and experament abit. Appreciate the tip!

Hey Doug, Man I’m lovin’ on that 335 also. That is some awesome work you did there. As far as my 190 goes I slapped some silly putty on and repainted the RLM 84 where it pulled off with the tape. Now how just need to readjust and touch up the RLM 75. By the way there is an item I failed to mention about my experience with silly putty. It really sticks to flat paint. It does work a bit better to remove if you use it on a glossy surface. You can use it on a flat surface it’s just that you may need to blot bits of it off with another piece of putty. I believe you will enjoy using it though. Oh yeah, I have yet to see silly putty lift paint off a model. Another plus.

Thanks Joe… I’m going to try a few panels I’ve prepped to test this weekend. Thats what I like about this GB, there is an over abundance of knowledge and talent here. I’ve picked up some darn good tips from most everyone here. Just couldnt ask for a better group to build with!

Take care

Doug

I think it’s decided now:

I’ll host a “Pfeil” GB. Just give me an our or two. It would need a name though… Any ideas?

I have an idea for the badge as well…

Man… I just get this one started and you guys go and start another one…

Anyway. No pics yet, cockpit is assembled. Planning to use decal for IP (This one is going to also be a relearning expedition.) Any suggestions on color for drybrushing the side panels?

I would love to join in something like that Clemens. Right now is just out of the question for me as I have a Dauntless to finish up for your GB, and a D-9 to start on after that. With all the goodies I have for that 335 I’ll be a year getting that one done for sure! I will be game later on for something like that though. It would give me the perfect excuse to get that one built.
