I use Future extensively prior to applying decals. I usually follow with DullCote. The model I’m working on now requires a final gloss coat. Anybody use Future as a final coat instead of a GlossCote Laquer? Will it yellow over time?
Future will not yellow. Check out Swanny’s complete Future article on his website. It’s got great Future info, and covers such things as yellowing. “He’s a good man, and thorough.”
Jeez, nobody picked up a Big Lebowski reference?
For shame.
Sorry Madda, tain’t seent that flick!
Any good? John Goodman, yes?
By the way, I still haven’t been able to find Future here in Japan.
It’s great, one of my all time favorites. John Goodman’s best performance ever, Jeff Bridges should have won on oscar. I always love Steve Buscemi and John Turturro, they’re always great, even in little character parts, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman is hillarious as well. Sam Eliott even has a small role. If you get the chance Brian, by all means watch it. It’s really really funny, and imminently quoteable. I pick up something new every time I see it, it really is packed full of little things. In fact, I think I’ll watch it tonight.
i have never used future or lacquer gloss coat.
but i hear that the lacquer gloss cote is one of the better overcoat to apply.
but i have heard from a seller that it needs to thinned down with lacquer thinner. and if u put lacquer thinner into a mixture, i would think that it will destroy the base coat paint if it’s not lacquer as well.
lacquer thinner will pretty much destroy acrylic and enamel paints. so i don’t really know what would happen with lacquer glosscoats. if it’s becomes a different mixture or not.
i hear testors enamel glosscoats will yellow overtime. but i haven’t heard about this that much about lacquer glosscoats. some say they do. others say they don’t. i don’t know what is going on with these yellowing stuff. haven’t the company learned by now of what to fix??
what makes them yellow anyway? sunlight? heat? cold? humidity?
but how good is future anyway? where can i use it on? over flat colors and gloss colors?
i have used water based gloss coats. i hate them. they always dull the finish. why put gloss topcoat if it comes out flatt?
okay, it does have a certain shine, or should i say sparkles to it. but it never comes out smooth. it always comes out in bits and peices.
although my gloss paints comes out pretty glossy and smooth, the topcoat never comes out smooth. i wanna use future. but don’t know where to get em.
i guess in the end, you will never know if you like something or not until you have tried it yourself. i have had doubts about certain products when people say it is great. and when i bought them, i knew why i had my doubts. somethings never comes out as good as what people claim it to be. so i guess experimentation is all i can do.
You can get Future at WalMart or some other such store, and it is all it’s cracked up to be. It’s great on clear parts, and as a gloss coat as well. I’ve heard that laquer gloss coats can yellow, but I’ve not used them, so I don’t know for sure. Check Swanny’s website out and read his article on the complete future.
