future nessesary?

hi guys i was just curious if it was all that nessasary to add future to an acrilic paint job, i mean ill brush paint a patch or two where decals go but for the rest of the model if i weather with oils and enamels do i really need it?

It depends. If you spot paint the future, you most likely will darken the undersurface. In those circumstances you’re better off spraying future to entire panels or the entire tank.

A glossy surface is needed to apply decals to, it doesn’t matter if it is Future (a way overrated product) or any other of the many gloss coats out there. If you just put a patch under where the decals go, it will be noticable becuase it will change the tonality of the original basecoat.

There are some ( and Im sure they will be along shortly) that will argue this point. I applied the kit decals directly to the flat finish on my Tamiya 222 and they came out good. I just made sure to put a good amount of Solvaset where the decal was going, then applied the decal, then more Solvaset. Mine turned out good with no silvering whats-so-ever.

ANTI-FUTURE DOOG HERE! [:D] lol!! [(-D]

You can get away without using it. In my opinion, it’s waaaaaaay overused, but that’e me…

Here’s a little tutorial of how I do it without gloss.

I’m with you guys,

We don’t get “Future” here in Oz, the eqivilant that is recomended tends to melt acrylic (my preferred paint), so I tried it once, and damaged my paint job.

I have had great success putting down decals straight over matt paint by first burnishing the area with a soft pencil eraser, (this takes the edge off any surface irregularities, allowing the decal to sit flush to the surface), then bathe it in microsol.
